About Spay-Mart
Spay-Mart is a long-standing Louisiana nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing feline overpopulation through rescue, adoption, and accessible spay/neuter services. As the organization enters an exciting period of transition and growth, we are seeking an experienced Executive Director to lead the development of a new facility, strengthen operations, and guide Spay-Mart into its next chapter of impact.
Position Summary
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive leader responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and financial management of Spay-Mart. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in nonprofit management, animal welfare, and veterinary clinic operations. This role requires an adaptable, entrepreneurial leader capable of building systems, optimizing programs, and driving mission-centered results in a dynamic environment.
The ED will oversee the establishment and launch of a new organizational facility, expand adoption, and rescue operations, strengthen cost-control and financial sustainability, and serve as the primary public representative of Spay-Mart. The ED works closely with— and is accountable to— the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategic Management
- Provide visionary leadership to advance Spay-Mart’s mission and long-term strategic goals.
- Lead development and operationalization of the new facility, including planning, staffing, program creation, and workflow design.
- Foster a healthy organizational culture rooted in transparency, compassion, teamwork, and accountability.
Program & Operations Oversight
- Oversee all rescue, adoption, and spay/neuter programs to ensure efficiency, quality, and measurable outcomes.
- Manage veterinary clinic operations, ensuring high-quality medical care, regulatory compliance, and effective scheduling/workflow.
- Establish and optimize operating procedures, safety protocols, and best practices for animal welfare and facility management.
Financial Management & Cost Control
- Prepare and manage the annual budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational priorities.
- Implement cost-controls, resource management practices, and financial monitoring systems.
- Oversee all revenue-generating activities, including adoptions, clinic services, fundraising events, and partnerships.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit reporting requirements, accounting standards, and state/federal guidelines.
Board Relations
- Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors, providing timely updates, data, and recommendations.
- Support Board governance through strategic planning, policy development, and organizational reporting.
- Execute Board-approved plans while offering professional insight and leadership direction.
Staff Leadership & Human Resources
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff, contractors, and volunteers.
- Promote professional development and foster a culture of respect, communication, and teamwork.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws, HR policies, and workplace safety standards.
Community Relations & Public Engagement
- Serve as the primary spokesperson and public ambassador for Spay-Mart.
- Build strong relationships with community partners, veterinarians, donors, municipal agencies, and media outlets.
- Represent the organization at events, conferences, and public meetings.
- Lead marketing, outreach, and engagement efforts to grow adoption rates, donor support, and public awareness.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in nonprofit management, animal welfare, or veterinary clinic operations.
- Demonstrated success in staff management, budgeting, and organizational development.
- Experience overseeing or working within a veterinary practice, shelter, or spay/neuter clinic.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
- Proven ability to build community partnerships and cultivate donor relationships.
- Strong problem-solving skills and comfort making decisions in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
- Commitment to humane animal care and Spay-Mart’s mission.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, public administration, animal science, or related field.
- Experience leading capital projects, facility launches, or major organizational transitions.
- Fundraising or grant-writing experience.
- Knowledge of Louisiana nonprofit regulations and animal welfare laws.

- Full-time, salary-exempt position; compensation commensurate with experience.
