What You Will Do
Southern Cross is hiring a full-time Night Shift AMLD Driver in the Fredericksburg, VA area to support our Advanced Mobile Leak Detection (AMLD) program, which surveys natural gas pipeline systems using specialized vehicle-based technology. This role is ideal for dependable drivers who can work primarily third shift, travel extensively based on business needs, and operate safely and independently while following assigned routes, procedures, and client requirements.
This position requires a high level of flexibility. Drivers may be reassigned to different projects with little notice depending on operational needs, so candidates must be comfortable adapting quickly to changing assignments, schedules, and locations.
Drivers must also be available for emergency driving assignments outside of their normal schedule, including nights, weekends, and other non-standard hours when urgent client needs arise.
Driver Duties
Candidates should be comfortable using technology such as cell phones, tablets, and laptops, including navigating multiple applications, and must be willing to learn routine troubleshooting procedures to keep equipment functioning properly while in the field.
This position typically works 10-hour night shifts, with a standard schedule of Sunday evening through Thursday morning, generally around 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM, depending on assignment needs.
Candidates must maintain a clean DMV driving record and be willing to operate a company vehicle equipped with telematics, including in-cab cameras, driver coaching technology, and forward-facing video recording systems.
Drivers must be comfortable working independently and operating alone for extended periods of time.
Physical And Additional Requirements
Candidates must be able to sit and drive for up to 10 hours per shift, with two 15-minute breaks and one 30-minute meal period. This role also requires the ability to walk 3–5 miles per day, bend, crouch, kneel frequently, and carry a minimum of 20 pounds of equipment.
Candidates should be comfortable using small hand tools such as wrenches and screwdrivers, along with basic diagnostic tools such as multimeters. Strong communication and customer service skills are also required, as drivers may interact with customers while representing the company professionally.
Candidates must be available for overtime as needed, including weekends, and must be comfortable using computers and technology in the field.

The starting pay for this position is $24.00 to $26.00 per hour, based on experience.

Responsibilities & Duties
- Drive and operate AMLD survey vehicles safely and efficiently during overnight shifts
- Travel as needed based on assignment and project demands, including overnight travel and occasional weekend mobilization or demobilization
- Demonstrate flexibility to be reassigned to different projects, routes, or service areas with little advance notice
- Perform basic vehicle and equipment troubleshooting, including routine checks and resolving common technology or application issues
- Maintain safe driving performance in a variety of road and weather conditions, including rain, fog, and winter conditions where applicable
- Follow all company and client safety policies, procedures, quality standards, and documentation requirements
- Maintain accurate records of driving activity, project work, and any required field documentation
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members, providing updates on progress and any issues in the field
- Represent Southern Cross professionally and ethically in all interactions with clients, partners, and the public
- Perform other duties as assigned
