Job Description

As an Underground Utility Locate Technician, you'll help protect critical infrastructure by identifying and marking underground utility lines before excavation begins. Using computer based utility maps, specialized locating equipment, and your problem solving skills, you'll locate utilities such as gas, electric, telecommunications, and other underground lines.

This is an active, hands-on position that combines technology, field work, problem-solving, and independence. If you enjoy working outdoors and don't want to spend your workday behind a desk, this could be a great opportunity for you.

Job Responsibilities

• Travel to assigned job sites to respond to routine utility locate requests, relocates, and emergency requests
• Use mapping technology, utility records, and specialized locating equipment to identify underground utilities
• Locate and mark underground electric, gas, telephone, telecommunications, and other utility lines
• Clearly mark utility locations using paint, flags, and other approved methods.
• Communicate utility locations and relevant information to excavators, contractors, and other appropriate personnel
• Follow company safety procedures and industry standards while working in the field
• Maintain accurate records and documentation of completed locate requests
• Participate in after hours on call rotation schedule when applicable
• Drive a company vehicle to and from assigned work locations
• All other duties assigned by manager
  
  

Knowledge, Skills, And Attitude

• Utility Locate and Utility Construction experience preferred but not required
• Positive, professional attitude and strong work ethic
• Ability to use a computer, smartphone, and other technology
• Valid driver's license in the applicable state of employment
• Ability to work independently and manage assigned work throughout the day
• Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekends when business needs require it
  
  

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday Full Time with the possibility of weekend work when duties cannot be performed within a normal work schedule.

Physical Requirements

• Drive approximately 50-200 miles per day, depending on your assigned territory
• Walk approximately 4-6 miles per day over a variety of terrain
• Spend extended periods sitting while driving between job site
• Work outdoors in hot, cold, rainy, and other weather conditions
• Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Work around construction sites and other active field environments
