Field Services AMI Coordinator

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under general supervision, the AMI Coordinator plays a vital role in the successful deployment, operation, and maintenance of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system. This position is responsible for coordinating, testing, planning AMI and metering applications, ensuring smooth meter and meter reading technology installs, coordinating day-to-day field operations, accurate data collection, and ensuring timely delivery of billing information. Reports to the Field Service Supervisor.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Oversee and manage daily field operations related to AMI meter and network deployments.

2. Coordinate with internal and external teams (e.g., vendors, field personnel, Customer Experience, Billing, IT, management) for efficient resource allocation and project execution.

3. Serve as the subject matter expert for AMI technology, staying up to date with developments and best practices.

4. Install, manage and monitor the AMI system, ensuring schedules are run and timely repairs are made when necessary.

5. Perform and manage technical reviews and acceptance testing for software and firmware upgrades.

6. Troubleshoot and correct problems related to AMI devices (meters, networks, communications).

7. Conduct field investigations and repairs, or coordinate repairs as needed.

8. Serve as the primary installation liaison with Customer Experience, Billing, installation vendors, and other internal stakeholders.

9. Ensure the safe execution of field activities and resolve safety issues promptly.

10. Compiles reports of Key Performance Indicators related to projects and submits to Field Service Manager.

11. Communicates needed repairs to meter boxes or incoming service line to the appropriate staff.

12. Communicates with customers, sub-contractors or vendors either by phone, text, e-mail or in person related to activities surrounding meter projects.

13. Assists with testing and implementation of any new AMR/AMI systems.

14. Verifies installation of all newly installed AMR/AMI meters by test reading before the actual billing cycle.

15. Utilizes mobile service order system to complete/generate service orders. Utilizes business computer (CIS Infinity) to initiate and monitor service order completeness and accuracy.

16. Performs on-site inspections with customers to resolve potential issues with installation.

17. Operates Spartanburg Water vehicle; maintains in clean and orderly condition; ensures that preventive maintenance is performed on scheduled basis; reports vehicle repair needs in prompt manner.

18. Responds to after-hour calls.

19. Analyzes AMR/AMI problems to isolate failure causes between mechanical and electronic, register and ERT to ensure replacement of appropriate component(s).

20. Analyzes AMR failures to recognize trends and patterns and recommend corrective actions or work with manufacturers, equipment and/or supplier technical experts to seek corrective actions.

21. Manages assigned staff.

22. Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of three to five years’ experience in meter reading, meter service, and customer service, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Basic knowledge of water plumbing and fittings needed to assist with customer complaints, meter change-out projects, etc. Must possess or obtain certification in First Aid/CPR and have a valid driver’s license.
