Job Summary
The Success Coach/Tutor serves as a peer educator in the Success Center by providing tutoring, success coaching, and front-office support to help students strengthen academic skills, develop effective learning strategies, and connect with campus resources.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide individual and small-group tutoring in assigned subject areas.
- Conduct success coaching sessions focused on study skills, time management, goal setting, accountability, and college readiness.
- Build positive relationships with students while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and excellent customer service.
- Demonstrate initiative by meeting productivity goals.
- Refer students to appropriate campus resources.
- Assist with front desk operations, student check-in, and scheduling appointments.
- Maintain timely and accurate coaching and tutoring records.
- Promote Success Center services through campus events, classroom visits, peer outreach, and general marketing promotions.
- Attend required training, team meetings, and professional development activities.
- Demonstrate reliability through punctuality, effective communication, and consistent job performance.
Learning Outcomes
This position provides meaningful work experience while developing transferable career skills in communication, critical thinking, leadership, professionalism, and teamwork.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in the Success Center in an office environment with regular interaction with students, faculty, and staff. Work schedules are built around academic commitments. The position is part-time up to ten hours per week based on demand for services.
- Current Spartanburg Methodist College student in good academic standing.
- Demonstrated proficiency in assigned tutoring subject area(s).
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold academic integrity.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
