What are the responsibilities and job description for the Day Porter position at Spartanburg Day School?
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Day Porter to join our team on a temporary 3-month assignment. This position plays a key role in maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and overall upkeep of our facility during operating hours. The ideal candidate will help ensure the building remains clean, safe, and presentable throughout the day. Exceptional performance may lead to a full-time opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform continuous cleaning and maintenance of high-traffic and common areas, including lobbies, restrooms, break rooms, and hallways.
- Restock supplies such as paper towels, soap, toilet paper, and other restroom essentials.
- Wipe down surfaces, glass, and touchpoints to maintain a clean and sanitized environment.
- Remove trash and recyclables from designated areas and replace liners.
- Respond promptly to service requests, spills, and emergency cleaning needs.
- Support event setups and breakdowns, including arranging chairs, tables, and equipment.
- Follow all safety, sanitation, and security procedures in accordance with company and building standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior janitorial, custodial, or porter experience preferred.
- Knowledge of cleaning products, safety procedures, and proper use of cleaning equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform physical labor.
- Strong attention to detail and effective time management skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
