POSITION SUMMARY
The Pet Resource Center Adoption Supervisor will oversee the adoption/foster/return to owner process for all animals. The position requires hands-on leadership and training throughout the department. It is essential for the Adoption Supervisor to exhibit strong communication and organizational skills.
This position will oversee and provide leadership to Animal Caretakers. This role will report directly to the Pet Resource Center Deputy Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: These tasks are illustrative only; to carry out the day-to-day functions of the job, other duties may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.
- Responsible for maintaining animal flow out of the Pet Resource Center through coordination and communication with leadership team
- Serve as a point of contact for potential adopters, answering questions and providing information about the adoption process.
- Promote the shelter and its adoption program through social media, websites, and other channels
- Assist with hiring, teammate coaching and termination for assigned department
- Understanding the resources of the organization so that the adoption department is in alignment with organizational resources available to the public
- Ensures Adoption Department team is in alignment with organizational resources available to the public
- Provides training and guidance to department staff on animal care protocols, safety procedures, and best practices
- Develops and implements schedules for staff, ensuring adequate coverage and efficient workflow.
- Facilitates effective communication among staff, volunteers, and other departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Oversees the process of adopting/outgoing animals, including behavior assessment/treatment, identification, and record-keeping.
- Performs Humane Euthanize as needed
- Ensures all animals are handled humanely and safely, providing necessary care and attention.
- Manages quarantine procedures and isolation of sick or potentially contagious animals.
- Develops and implements animal care protocols, ensuring proper feeding, housing, and enrichment.
- Maintains accurate records of animal intake, care, and medical history.
- Manages inventory of supplies, ensuring adequate stock and efficient purchasing.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Performs general administrative/office duties as required, including typing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, ordering supplies, answering the telephone, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- 5 years of previous work in veterinary medicine industry
- 6 years of direct leadership experience
- Highly developed emotional intelligence, ethical decision making, and capacity to navigate multiple interests to achieve positive outcomes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with teammates, volunteers and public
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be proficient with basic computer applications
- Must be able to complete tasks stated above without extensive training
- 3 years working in the veterinary medicine field
- 2 years of leadership experience in veterinary medicine field
- Certified in Humane Euthanasia, or ability to receive certification
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to deal with a diverse range of people and personalities
- Supports a non-judgmental approach to people, adopters, and the community
- Ability to be adaptive and responsive to evolving priorities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Passion for animal welfare and the mission of the Pet Resource Center.
- Flexibility to work as needed, including evenings and some weekends.
- Working knowledge of animal restraint and care technique
- Ability to handle unpleasant, as well as physically and emotionally demanding work
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS, and OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Certified in Humane Euthanasia, or ability to receive certification
- All regular full-time and part-time employees of Spartanburg County are required by state law to participate in the South Carolina Retirement System.
- Possession of a valid driver's license issued in the state of South Carolina.
