Position Overview
We are seeking an expert-level MuleSoft Integration Architect to serve as the technical leader and primary decision-maker for complex enterprise integration initiatives. This is a hands-on architecture, design, and development role with a strong emphasis on preparing the integration team for upcoming SAP integration efforts.
The ideal candidate will have deep MuleSoft architecture and development experience, strong technical leadership skills, and the ability to define standards, guide implementation strategy, mentor team members, and resolve complex platform and integration challenges.

Key Responsibilities
Architecture and Integration Strategy
- Define and develop architecture for integration initiatives and projects.
- Serve as the technical integrations consultant for CDOT agencies and stakeholders.
- Act as the primary decision-maker for technical implementation direction.
- Investigate, evaluate, and lead the implementation of new tools, architectures, and complex integrations.
- Identify and communicate future enterprise initiatives that may impact CDOT’s integration environment.
- Identify forward-looking technical debt, architecture gaps, and modernization needs.
- Prepare the integration team for future SAP integration initiatives.
Design, Development, and Quality Assurance
- Create and define high-level designs for complex integrations.
- Perform complex technical design and hands-on development.
- Validate business and technical requirements to ensure accurate implementation planning.
- Provide reliable implementation estimates based on validated requirements.
- Define, document, and enforce technical standards, including naming conventions, coding standards, and design patterns.
- Review and validate Senior Developer deliverables.
- Perform code reviews and ensure development aligns with architecture, security, and quality standards.
Platform Operations and Support
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve Anypoint Platform configuration, infrastructure, and platform-related issues.
- Set up and maintain build and release pipelines.
- Configure repository branch permissions and variable group libraries.
- Create tooling for reporting, auditing, ad hoc reports, and vCore adjustments.
- Provide advanced debugging and resolution for complex support issues.
- Assist with QA team onboarding, testing setup, and environment configuration.
- Provide configuration knowledge and technical support during User Acceptance Testing.
Mentorship and Technical Leadership
- Mentor developers and integration team members on MuleSoft development standards.
- Provide guidance on technical design, coding best practices, and complex problem resolution.
- Support knowledge transfer related to architecture decisions, platform configuration, security, and SAP integration readiness.
- Promote consistent delivery practices across the integration team.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Expert-level experience as a MuleSoft Architect or Senior MuleSoft Developer.
- Minimum of 6 years of MuleSoft development experience.
- Strong experience developing and implementing API-led architecture.
- Hands-on experience with Mule 4 and DataWeave 2.0 or higher.
- Demonstrated experience with SAP Integration Suite and connecting to SAP data sources, systems, and interfaces.
- Proven ability to perform detailed requirements validation and provide accurate effort estimates.
- Extensive experience creating complex technical designs and technical documentation.
- Advanced MuleSoft coding, development, and integration troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with build and release pipelines, repository permissions, and secure management of sensitive credentials.
- Strong knowledge of integration security, logging, auditing, policy management, and performance monitoring.
- Experience supporting end-to-end integration process execution, testing, deployment, and production support.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting public sector or transportation-related enterprise environments.
- Familiarity with CDOT or similar state agency integration environments.
- Experience preparing teams for large-scale SAP integration projects.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to advise both technical teams and business stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently as a senior technical authority while also mentoring team members.
