As an Excavator Operator, you will be responsible for safely operating excavating machinery to dig, move, and grade earth materials at construction, mining, or infrastructure project sites. The role involves preparing sites, loading and unloading materials, coordinating with other crew members, and performing routine maintenance on equipment.
Responsibilities Include
- Operation of a variety of heavy excavation equipment including backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, & other machines as needed
- Perform digging, trenching, and grading tasks in preparation for construction and site development
- Ensure precise and accurate excavation according to project plans and specifications
- Conducting daily pre-operational checks on equipment to ensure it is functioning properly
- Maintaining a high standard of safety by following all safety procedures and wearing proper protective equipment
- Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, or instructions to ensure excavations are made to specification
- Effectively communicating with other crew members and contractors on site to coordinate work and ensure smooth operations
- Identify and avoid hazards (utilities, unstable ground, other equipment, workers).
- Minor maintenance: greasing, cleaning, adjusting, and reporting defects for larger repairs
- Assist in the loading and unloading of materials, as required
- Maintain and organize the work area to ensure a safe and clean environment
- Maintain accurate records of job activity (e.g., hours, materials moved, inspections)
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines at all times
- 2 years of experience in excavation or heavy equipment operations
- Valid operator's license for equipment (e.g., Excavator, Backhoe)
- Strong knowledge of excavation techniques, equipment capabilities, and safety regulations
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and site plans
- OSHA 10/30 certification preferred
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instruction
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Neat, clean and organized
- Great work ethic
