Position Summary
The Safety Coordinator supports the implementation and continuous improvement of Spartan Companies' health, safety, and environmental programs across multiple job sites. This position works closely with field leadership, employees, and the Regional Safety Manager to promote safe work practices, ensure regulatory compliance, conduct field observations, and strengthen the overall safety culture throughout the organization.
The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and passionate about helping others work safely while building positive relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
Essential ResponsibilitiesSafety Program Support
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of company safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Support the Regional Safety Manager in achieving company safety objectives and initiatives.
- Provide daily field support and guidance to project teams and operational personnel.
- Promote a culture of safety ownership and accountability throughout the organization.
Field Safety Operations
- Conduct regular job site inspections, audits, and safety observations.
- Identify hazards and work with supervisors and employees to implement corrective actions.
- Monitor compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and customer-specific requirements.
- Participate in Job Safety Analysis (JSA) reviews and pre-task planning activities.
- Support field personnel in understanding and applying safe work practices.
Training and Employee Engagement
- Assist with safety orientations, training sessions, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
- Encourage employee participation in safety programs, observations, and reporting processes.
- Promote awareness of critical safety procedures, including but not limited to:
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Confined Space Entry
- Fall Protection
- Scaffolding Safety
- Hazard Communication
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Incident Response and Investigation
- Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis activities.
- Assist with documentation, reporting, and corrective action tracking.
- Support efforts to identify trends and develop preventative measures.
- Ensure incidents, near misses, and safety concerns are properly reported and addressed.
Communication and Continuous Improvement
- Maintain positive working relationships with employees, supervisors, customers, and subcontractors.
- Support safety-related communications and reporting requirements.
- Assist in tracking safety metrics, audits, observations, and corrective actions.
- Participate in customer, community, and industry safety initiatives as assigned.
- Contribute ideas and recommendations for continuous improvement of Spartan's safety programs.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred
- Previous experience in construction, industrial, manufacturing, utility, or related environments.
- Safety-related training or certifications such as OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, CHST, or equivalent.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills are a plus.
Work Schedule
- Monday through Friday
- Standard 8-hour workday
- Additional hours, weekends, and travel may be required based on project needs
