High School English Teacher

Sparta High School is seeking a passionate, student-centered High School English Teacher to join our collaborative learning community. We are looking for an educator who values teamwork, believes in the power of strong relationships, and is committed to helping every student succeed. The ideal candidate will thrive in a Professional Learning Community (PLC) where educators work together to analyze student learning, share best practices, and continuously improve instruction.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging and rigorous English Language Arts instruction aligned with the Michigan Merit Curriculum.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and student-centered classroom that encourages critical thinking, communication, and a love of learning.
• Collaborate with colleagues in a Professional Learning Community to design curriculum, analyze student achievement data, and develop effective instructional practices.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of all learners.
• Build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues to support student success.
• Participate in ongoing professional learning and contribute positively to the collaborative culture at Sparta High School.
• Support the school community through involvement in school initiatives, activities, and programs.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate with an English (BA) endorsement.
• Commitment to collaborative teaching, continuous improvement, and student-centered learning.
• Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a collaborative instructional team.

Preferred Qualifications

• English as a Second Language (NS) endorsement or a Bilingual Education endorsement.
• Candidates without one of these endorsements should demonstrate a strong interest in working with English language learners and a willingness to pursue additional certification.
• Experience using data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.
• Previous high school teaching experience.
• Interest in contributing to extracurricular activities, clubs, or athletics.
