What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inpatient Medical Coder position at Sparks Group?
Sparks Group has partnered with a leading medical services organization to recruit a highly skilled Senior Coding Analyst. This remote opportunity is ideal for professionals with strong inpatient and pediatric coding experience, looking to contribute to a dynamic and mission-driven team. Interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams, and candidates will be asked to complete a coding test following the initial interview.
This is a fully remote position; however, candidates must be located in AL, FL, GA, MO, NC, OK, TN, TX, or WV.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Communicate professionally with physicians, third-party payers, and internal teams regarding coding principles and processes.
- Accurately and completely code medical records to support reimbursement for services rendered.
- Apply superior judgment and experience to accomplish goals.
- Understand medical record processes and their impact on third-party reimbursement.
- Maintain confidentiality of medical records at all times.
- Assign and sequence ICD-10-CM/CPT/HCPCS/ICD-10-PCS codes for diagnoses and procedures.
- Abstract necessary information from health records to identify complications and co-morbid conditions.
- Meet departmental accuracy and productivity standards.
- Ensure all documented services are captured and coded according to applicable guidelines.
- Analyze provider documentation for appropriate Evaluation & Management (E&M) level assignment.
- Evaluate records for documentation consistency and compliance with reimbursement criteria.
- Compile and report results of quality review work.
- Support testing of new coding programs and act as a resource for various coding types.
Qualifications/Background Profile:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Coding certification required: CCS RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CIC, COC, CCA, or CPC-A.
- Required experience in inpatient coding and pediatric coding.
- Preferred experience in professional/technical surgical coding (Colorectal, Neurosurgery, Cardiovascular).
