Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Home Care Aide (HCA) Course Instructor to join our team. The instructor will be responsible for delivering state-approved training to prepare students for the Home Care Aide (HCA) certification in the State of Washington. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and a deep understanding of caregiving in a long-term care environment. They will work closely with students to help them gain the skills necessary to provide high-quality care to individuals in need of personal care and prepare them to take the State License exams.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery:
- Deliver state-approved curriculum that prepares students for the Washington State Department of Health Home Care Aide certification.
- Provide both theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on skills training to ensure students are competent in caregiving tasks.
- Use a variety of teaching methods (lecture, demonstration, simulation, role-playing) to accommodate diverse learning styles.
Student Evaluation:
- Assess student performance through written tests, skill evaluations, and practical exams.
- Provide constructive feedback and support to help students meet course objectives.
- Maintain accurate student records, including attendance and performance reports.
Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure all instruction and documentation comply with Washington state regulations and guidelines for Home Care Aide certification.
- Assist in keeping training materials updated and aligned with state and federal guidelines.
- Submit reports and documentation as required by the state’s Department of Social & Health Services or accrediting bodies.
Classroom Management:
- Create a positive and respectful learning environment for students.
- Manage classroom activities, including setting up for practical demonstrations and simulations.
- Address any student concerns or questions in a timely and professional manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education:
- Associate degree, or higher in health or human services
- Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing/training program.
Licensure/Certification:
- Healthcare License or Social Services License and in good standing in Washington State.
- Or current and active LPN, HCA, or CNA Washington State License.
- CPR certification (Instructor-level preferred).
Experience:
- At least two (2) years of experience working in hospital, long-term care, or a related healthcare setting.
- Prior teaching or training experience is preferred.
Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage and engage a classroom of adult learners.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with computer applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, meeting platforms).
Additional Requirements:
- Must have access to reliable transportation for possible off-site training sessions.
- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends for class schedules.
