What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Spark Packaging?
Estimator Responsibility Summary:
The primary function of a print estimator is to develop cost estimates on routine and complex jobs through our MIS system (EFI’s PACE) as required by customer’s requests either provided directly or through our sales department. Additionally working hand in hand with our other estimators, production, sales and management in the custom manufacturing of our clients print, mailing, die cutting and bindery work. The ideal individual will be an integral part of the unit’s workflow, has an awareness of all related activities and must be able to interact and successfully complete projects with production.
Job Duties:
• Analyze documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates through PACE
• Engineer the best production plan for a project regarding layout, material(s) and any outside service(s) required.
• Evaluate all methods available for producing a job and provide quotes based on the most economical method.
• Revise estimates as needed due to specification changes.
• Develop knowledge of material availability and recommend cost saving opportunities.
• Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing and scheduling work.
• Consult with sales, vendors, personnel in other departments and at times customers directly to formulate estimates and resolve issues.
• Evaluate individual responsibilities and use initiative and resourcefulness to develop new methods, criteria or propose new policies.
• Maintain estimating standard procedures.
• Assure quality standards are met before delivering a quote.
• Utilize estimating software to provide quotes to assist Managers and CSR’s.
• Consult with the appropriate department managers to determine production capabilities and optimal production process.
• Advise and provide direction and support to employees trying to determine specifications on a project.
• Work with all employees to maximize customer satisfaction on all company’s produced projects.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 2 years in the printing/packaging industry would be a benefit, but not required
• Strong math, computer, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work well under tight deadlines for projects of various size and scope, the estimating team typically can complete 15-20 quotes a day, depending on complexity
• Positive customer focus and attitude.
• Must have a comprehensive knowledge of all printing processes, paper, ink, computer operation and purchasing.
• Experience using several different substrates and printing processes.
• Physical demand would be to move with ease throughout, sitting, standing, walking intervals. Most of your day will be dedicated to working at a computer in a provided cubicle.
