Spark Lab Robotics and Coding Academy ignites a passion for technology in students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Located in Lake Forest, CA, we offer engaging robotics and coding classes and summer camps designed to empower the next generation of innovators. Our curriculum features progressive levels, each carefully crafted to build students' skills using a variety of exciting platforms like Lego and VEX robotics kits, as well as various coding languages and environments. At Spark Lab, we believe in hands-on learning that sparks creativity, problem-solving, and a lifelong love for STEM.
Job Purpose:
Spark Lab Robotics and Coding Academy is seeking enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructors to guide our students through exciting journeys in robotics and coding. If you have a passion for STEM, enjoy working with kids, and possess strong communication skills, we encourage you to apply! As a Robotics and/or Coding Instructor, you will play a vital role in mentoring young minds, fostering their technical abilities, and inspiring the next generation of innovators. We provide comprehensive training on our curriculum and offer opportunities for growth within our dynamic academy.
You will:
- Lead engaging and interactive robotics and/or coding sessions for students aged 5-18 (K-12).
- Teach fundamental concepts in robotics (design, building, programming) and/or coding (various languages and platforms) in an age-appropriate manner.
- Guide students through our established curriculum, providing support and encouragement as they learn and build.
- Foster a fun, collaborative, and supportive learning environment where students can explore, experiment, and problem-solve.
- Effectively communicate technical concepts and project instructions to students of varying skill levels.
- Supervise and mentor students as they work on individual and group projects.
- Maintain a safe and organized learning space.
- Collaborate with other instructors and staff to ensure a positive and effective learning experience for all students.
- Provide feedback to students and communicate progress to parents as needed.
Ideal Candidate Qualities:
- Passion for STEM education, particularly in robotics and/or coding.
- Experience working with children in an educational setting (e.g., tutoring, teaching, mentoring, camps).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students of all ages.
- Patience, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Familiarity with coding fundamentals.
- Familiarity with robotics platforms (e.g., Lego, VEX) is a plus.
- A desire to learn and grow professionally.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging robotics and/or coding instruction based on Spark Lab's curriculum.
- Provide individualized support and guidance to students as they work through projects.
- Encourage creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Prepare for and set up materials for each session.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Communicate with parents about their child's learning journey as needed.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain a clean and organized learning space.
- Adhere to Spark Lab's policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned to support the success of our programs.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Effective classroom management skills.
- Patience and the ability to work with students of varying abilities and learning styles.
- Enthusiasm for working with children and fostering their interest in STEM.
- Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Strong understanding of fundamental robotics and/or coding concepts.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical challenges.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Education) is a plus.
- Experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting (required).
- Familiarity with robotics platforms and/or coding languages relevant to our curriculum is a plus.
- Must pass a background check.
- Reliable transportation.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily in-person at our Lake Forest location.
- Flexible part-time hours.
- May include weekday afternoons, evenings, and/or weekend hours.
- Comfortable working with and guiding groups of students aged 5-18.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
- Dexterity to manipulate small parts and technology equipment.
- May be required to lift and move light equipment (up to 25 lbs).
