Job Description

Position: Assistant Director

Reports to : Director and Executive Director

General Job Description:

Include: Assisting in developing and implementing plans and goals for the school. Working with the director to coordinate and supervise daily operations. Ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies. Assure that all students, parents and school employees live in a safe-learning-nurturing environment. Constantly improving the quality of the program while taking care of the administration and marketing of the school. Follow professional practices consistent with the preschool policies in working with students, parents and colleagues.

Assistant Director Profile

  • Is creative, dynamic, enthusiastic, communicative, cooperative and organized.
  • Take care of the children and watch over their safety while in the school premises.
  • Adheres to the policy and procedures of Sff! and the DCDEE (Division of Child Development and Early Education.)
  • Acts as a role model both inside and outside the school.
  • Complies with responsibility and efficiency the tasks entrusted.
  • Maintains a positive and respectful attitude at all times.
  • Encourage teamwork among all staff.
  • Frequently communicates with the Director, Regional Manager, Program coordinator, parents and staff.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in the face of changes or according to the needs of the parents, staff or the school.
  • Maintains confidential the information of the children, staff, and families of the school.
  • Works in cooperation with children, staff, and parents.
  • Seeks to generate at all times a warm, cordial and cooperative climate in the center. Takes care of the work environment.
  • Aspires improvement and continuous educational training.
  • Maintains a positive attitude, respectful and oriented towards excellence.
  • Demonstrates a proactive attitude, looking for creative and optimal actions to generate improvements in the center when difficulties that may arise.

  • -EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
  • Administration Course work (EDU 261 and EDU 262 or 6 SCH in Child Care Administration OR 9 SCH in Business Administration or Test Out)
  • and 5 years experience as child care director, co-director, assistant director.
  • PLUS Early Childhood/ Child Development Coursework ( 7 SCH in EC/CD or NCECC or equivalent and child care director, co-director or assistant director for 3 years)
  • Bilingual fluent in Spanish and English.
  • CPR and certified first aid.
  • EPR and Playground Safety.
  • Fingerprint/criminal record clearance through DHHS Criminal Background Check
  • -REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Relates to staff members and parents in a professional and diplomatic manner.
  • Ability to relate joyfully with children in a playful atmosphere.
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude and appropriate dress code.
  • Has good problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, self-motivation, and initiative.
  • Ability to work effectively and communicate with a diverse population of students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy (sometimes chaotic) and demanding environment.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and reliability, with good attendance, punctuality and work habits.

  • Ability to listen and follow guidelines or suggestions made.
  • Ability to manage people, work as a team, and coordinate with educational and administrative staff.

  • Ability to fluently communicate with Parents, co-workers, and Management in Spanish and/or English.
  • -DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL (include but are not limited to)


A: OFFICE

  • Answers the telephone
  • Keeps correspondence thru email
  • Checks and delivers regular mail
  • Takes care and follows up with providers
  • Reports to director daily
  • Keeps files organized and updated
  • Helps with payroll and supervises staff schedules.
  • Attends continuous education on Early Childhood Education
  • Asks for and follows guidance from assessors on the field implementing
  • regulations and standards at the school
  • Supervises that all regulations and policies are accomplished at the school
  • Participates actively on creating and implementing the state regulations and
  • school policies and handbook
  • Achieves his/her own personal goals which also enrich group work and school
  • objectives
  • Works actively with assessors on the field
  • Supervises and locks the school at the end of each school day or opens at
  • first shift
  • Keeps and improves a marketing plan
  • Keeps records of subsidies plan
  • Frequently reviews and reads magazines, news, web pages related to his/her own duties and to Early Childhood Education
  • Makes deposits and keeps records of payments


B: Parents

  • Maintains daily communication with current parents.
  • Keeps parents updated about their children’s files
  • Follows up and reviews payments are on time every month.
  • Gives information and tours to potential parents
  • Sends information through regular mail or e-mail
  • Listening to complaints and communicating with the director, makes suggestions.
  • Keeps track of visitors and sign sheet
  • Improves and encourages communication between parents and teachers
  • Makes monthly newsletters and weekly Friday news.
  • Reports accidents and/or incidents to parents, also about child’s progress or
  • the necessity of intervention of specialized professionals
  • Avoids and reports cases of abuse and neglect
  • Keeps information of board updated
  • Keeps the monthly update of tv slide show presentation
  • Encourages parents participation in different school activities and at different levels.
  • Provides orientation at enrollment process to each family
  • Make sure that regulations and rules are respected and accomplished.
  • Informs about the government’s subsidies program
  • Allows participation and accompanies each parent’s concern and/or suggestion
  • Calls absent children
  • welcomes new families
  • Does a follow-up to parents and children on special occasions
  • Welcomes and encourages feedback from parents
  • Notifies difficulties in the relationships among parents and among parents and staff
