What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Wireless Network Engineer position at Spadafy?
What You'll Do (All Levels)
- Administer and monitor the Cisco Meraki wireless network through the Meraki Dashboard — SSIDs, RF profiles, group policies, firmware, alerts, and client troubleshooting.
- Connect and troubleshoot endpoints onto wireless and wired networks, including Windows workstations, mobile clinical carts, handhelds, and IoT/biomedical devices (patient monitors, infusion pumps, telemetry, barcode scanners, VoIP handsets, and similar).
- Diagnose connectivity, roaming, authentication (802.1X / WPA2-Enterprise), and performance issues across the floor.
- Maintain accurate documentation: network diagrams, IP/VLAN assignments, AP inventories, and device onboarding records.
- Partner with clinical, biomedical, and IT teams to onboard new devices safely and with appropriate network placement.
- Respond to tickets and provide responsive onsite and remote support to clinical staff.
- Work within change-management and HIPAA-aligned security practices at all times.
Added Scope for Mid-Level / Senior Hires
- Own Meraki wireless architecture decisions, RF design, AP placement strategy, and capacity planning.
- Plan and execute Ekahau wireless surveys — predictive design as well as onsite validation and heat-mapping — and translate results into deployment changes.
- Lead network segmentation and security efforts for IoT and biomedical devices.
- Manage firmware lifecycle, escalations, and vendor relationships.
- Mentor and review the work of associate-level team members.
- Contribute to or lead voice/unified-communications work where applicable.
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on Cisco Meraki experience is essential — direct Dashboard administration, wireless configuration, and troubleshooting. This is the single most important requirement.
- Solid networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, switching, and 802.11 wireless concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot endpoint connectivity for Windows machines and network-attached devices.
- Ability to work onsite in the Santa Barbara area as described above.
- Clear communication and professionalism, with comfort working alongside clinical staff in a live healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications (Differentiators — these raise the level and the offer)
- CCNA or CCNP certification (strongly preferred; weighted heavily for senior roles).
- Ekahau wireless survey experience — predictive design and onsite validation.
- Cisco voice / unified communications experience (e.g., CUCM, Webex Calling, or comparable) is a strong plus.
- Healthcare or clinical network experience, including biomedical/IoT device onboarding and segmentation.
- Experience with 802.1X, NAC, FreeRADIUS for 802.1X auth, and/or Cisco ISE.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and healthcare security requirements.
How We Level This Role
We are hiring up to three people and expect to fill a mix of associate, mid-level, and senior positions. Associate candidates should bring genuine Meraki exposure and strong fundamentals with room to grow. Mid-level and senior candidates should bring depth in Meraki administration, ideally backed by CCNA/CCNP, Ekahau survey capability, and/or Cisco voice experience. Title and compensation will be set to match the experience and skills you bring — strong candidates should not self-select out based on a single posting.
