You will be working closely with various teams at Space Vector throughout all phases of product development and testing multiple key aerospace programs. Overall Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Component Engineer to join our Engineering team in supporting the lifecycle management of electronic components for aerospace systems. This role plays a key part in maintaining product integrity, supporting manufacturing, and ensuring long-term program sustainability through proactive component management and obsolescence mitigation. Work is to be performed with general oversight. May manage large projects or processes that are both inside and outside of the immediate job area. Typically, responsible for providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees. Expected to assist in managing complex projects at this level, involving delegation of work and review of work products.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and select electrical and electronic components based on technical specifications and project requirements.
- Analyze and manage component lifecycle, including identification of obsolete, at-risk, or end-of-life (EOL) parts.
- Work closely with disciplines such as design, procurement, and supply chain teams to propose alternate parts and manage part transitions.
- Review and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Part Lists for accuracy and compliance.
- Interface with component databases, manufacturers, and distributors for sourcing and obsolescence data.
- Use ERP systems (preferably Deltek Costpoint) to manage part data and component procurement.
- Participate in Electrical/ Electronic/ Electromechanical (EEE) Parts Engineering technical assignments related to hardware manufacturing and testing. Assignments will include technical evaluation and support of manufacturing issues/concerns
- Prepares EEE Component Source Control Drawings (SCDs), evaluates vendors and analyzes EEE Component test reports.
- Support engineering change orders (ECOs) and related documentation updates.
- Ensure all selected components comply with regulatory standards (RoHS, ITAR, etc.)
Communication
Communicates within and outside of their own function or business area and has responsibility for communicating with parties external to the organization (e.g., customers, vendors, etc.) when necessary. Explains, interprets, and gains cooperation on policies, procedures and practices.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline with 3 years of experience, or equivalent to 7 years of engineering experience.
- 3 years of experience in component engineering or electronics product support role.
- Strong working knowledge of electrical components, including passive, active, and electromechanical parts, High Voltage parts.
- Demonstrated experience in BOM and part list management.
- Proficiency in using ERP/MRP systems — Costpoint experience preferred.
- Familiarity with obsolescence management
- Solid understanding of aerospace or defense industry standards and reliability practices.
- Written Business Case Analysis for obsolete and end of life components.
- Must have the ability to travel up to 10% of the year or less.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting government or defense programs.
- Knowledge of ITAR/EAR compliance regulations.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and technical datasheets.
- Familiarity with PLM tools (e.g., Arena, Windchill, Agile).
- Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
