Substitute Teacher (Preschool & Primary School)
Job Type: As-Needed / Substitute
Schedule: Monday–Friday (Flexible / On-Call)

Age Groups: 6 weeks – 6th Grade
Overview
Join our vibrant learning community as a Substitute Teacher at Space Coast Discovery! In this rewarding and flexible role, you will step in to support classrooms when regular staff members are absent, helping maintain a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for children ranging from infants (6 weeks) through 6th grade.
As a Substitute Teacher, you will play an important role in ensuring consistency, structure, and care across classrooms. Your flexibility, patience, and enthusiasm will help support early childhood development, academic growth, social-emotional learning, and positive behavior.
Responsibilities
- Step into classrooms and follow lesson plans provided by School Leadership
- Maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment for children ages 6 weeks through 6th grade
- Support classroom management using positive behavior guidance and respectful communication
- Engage children in age-appropriate activities that promote:
- Early literacy and math skills
- Social-emotional development
- Fine and gross motor skills
- Independence and problem-solving
- Provide hands-on care when working in infant, toddler, or preschool classrooms, including:
- Diapering
- Toileting and toilet training
- Feeding and supervision
- Support children with unique abilities, developmental differences, or individualized needs
- Maintain classroom cleanliness, organization, and safety standards
- Communicate professionally with staff, children, and families
- Follow all DCF regulations, school policies, and health and safety procedures
- Collaborate with teachers and school leadership to ensure smooth classroom transitions
Requirements & Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Experience working with children preferred (childcare, school, camp, tutoring, etc.)
- 45 DCF training hours preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- CDA (Child Development Associate) preferred but not required
- Experience working with children with unique abilities preferred, or willingness to learn
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to adapt quickly to different classrooms and age groups
