Position Summary
The Store Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and operation of the Sozo Trading Co. retail location in Birmingham, Alabama. This role ensures the store operates with excellence in customer service, financial performance, team leadership, and mission alignment. The Store Manager leads staff and volunteers, oversees sales and inventory, and fosters a Christ-centered culture that reflects Sozo Children’s mission to restore the lives of vulnerable children and families.
Key Responsibilities
Store Operations & Performance
- Oversee all daily store operations, ensuring smooth, efficient, and professional execution.
- Manage sales performance, expense control, cash handling, and inventory accuracy.
- Implement operational standards related to merchandising, cleanliness, safety, and guest experience.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and take action to meet or exceed sales and operational goals.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise store staff and volunteers.
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance management.
- Model servant leadership characterized by integrity, humility, accountability, and care for people.
- Cultivate a positive, Christ-centered team culture aligned with Sozo Children’s mission and values.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration within the store team and with organizational leadership.
Customer & Community Engagement
- Ensure an engaging, welcoming, and professional customer experience at all times.
- Address customer concerns or issues promptly and graciously.
- Represent Sozo Trading Co. positively within the Birmingham community.
- Support promotions, donation initiatives, and community outreach efforts.
Mission Alignment & Spiritual Leadership
- Ensure store operations reflect and support Sozo Children’s Christian mission and values.
- Lead with prayer, encouragement, and spiritual maturity.
- Demonstrate Christ’s love to staff, volunteers, customers, and donors through daily leadership.
Qualifications
Required:
- 5 years of retail management or supervisory experience.
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage day-to-day retail operations.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to confidentiality, integrity, and ethical leadership.
- Practicing Christian with alignment to Sozo Children’s statement of faith and values.
Preferred:
- Experience in thrift, resale, or mission-driven retail environments.
- Experience working with volunteers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, or a related field.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Schedule may include Saturdays and special events.
