The veterinary technician is a vital employee that’s primary role is to provide support to the doctor. The veterinary technician initiates the examination and continues to assist the doctor throughout the exam, aiding with diagnostics and treatments needed. They support the doctor and hospital in achieving greater efficiency by performing the technician work and administrative detail. They have a significant role in communication with clients about the medical recommendations about their pets.
Responsibilities
- Provides compassionate and thorough care to patients
- Prepares and maintains the exam rooms and treatment areas
- Collects vitals and aids with diagnostic procedures
- Performs brief exams and records observations on patients
- Assists restraining pets when necessary
- Assists doctors in medical, surgical and dental procedures
- Prepares patients for surgery
- Prepares surgery suite
- Maintains sterile conditions
- Assists the doctor administering anesthesia
- Monitors patients during surgery and recovery
- Administers and monitors IV fluid therapy
- Properly cleans all surgical materials after they are used; keeps the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery
- Assists doctors with hospitalized patients
- Maintains supplies and equipment
- Completes laboratory tests and studies and diagnostic imaging
- Administers medications, drugs, and vaccines
- Bandages and wraps wounds
- Gives updates on patients to owners
- Fills and verifies prescriptions
- Understands usage for all prescription drugs and can readily explain them to the clients
- Maintains positive, corporative relationships with other employees
- Performs other duties as directed

Education and Experience Requirements:
- Highschool diploma or equivalent; Veterinary technician certification desirable
- 1 year of experience of being a veterinary technician or assistant
Pay: $19.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 36.0 – 42.0 per week
