Position Overview
Southwestern University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Engineering to begin in August 2027. Southwestern University is actively pursuing ABET accreditation for its newly launched B.S. in Engineering. The successful candidate will join a small, collaborative engineering faculty and will be expected to contribute meaningfully to program assessment, continuous improvement, and the ABET accreditation process of this general engineering degree.
The University’s standard teaching load is five courses a year, along with departmental responsibilities, advising, university service, and participation in the University’s First-Year Seminar Program. Candidates will be expected to teach introductory-level physics and engineering courses as well as upper-level engineering courses. The candidate will be encouraged to develop two specialty courses in their specific area of interest. Candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching undergraduate courses and interdisciplinary collaboration. Qualifications
- Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in an engineering discipline. ABD candidates will be considered, but the degree must be completed by August 1, 2027.
- We welcome candidates with research programs in any engineering area that can engage undergraduate researchers. Programs aligned with advanced manufacturing (advanced CAD, rapid prototyping, etc.), systems design, and control systems are particularly encouraged.
- Prior experience with ABET-accredited engineering programs — as a student, faculty member, or in another capacity — is preferred but not required.
