COMPANY SUMMARY

Southwestern Power Group (SWPG) is a premier developer of independent utility-scale generation and transmission assets in the desert southwest. For over two decades, our success has been driven entirely by our people—a select team of development professionals with deep expertise across finance, engineering, permitting, real estate, and public relations.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of MMR Group—a global leader in electrical construction and technical services—SWPG combines an agile, collaborative culture with the stability and backing of a world-renowned parent company.

POSITION SUMMARY

Southwestern Power Group (SWPG) is seeking a highly skilled and driven Project Manager to lead the development of utility-scale generation and high-voltage transmission projects. The development period covers project inception to construction start.

Operating within SWPG’s specialized team environment, you will be supported by development professionals with environmental permitting, engineering, real estate, construction and public relations expertise. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of utility-scale grid and generation infrastructure, a proactive approach to risk management, and the leadership capacity to manage a multi-disciplinary team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project Budget: Must be proficient in developing and managing the development of cash flow forecasts. Training on internal budget tracking platform will be provided.
  • Project Schedule: Manage and coordinate all development activities, ensuring major milestones are achieved on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the central hub connecting multi-disciplinary teams—directing efforts across engineering, construction real property acquisition, permitting and public affairs.
  • Permitting & Regulatory Strategy: Work closely with engineering, environmental and legal teams to complete complex local, state, and federal permitting processes (including NEPA, BLM, and state utility commissions), ensuring strict compliance at every phase.
  • Stakeholder & Partner Engagement: Act as a primary liaison with external parties and stakeholders interested in SWPG’s energy projects.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience: 10 years of dedicated project management experience within the energy sector, specifically managing high-voltage transmission lines, substation, or utility-scale generation development projects.
  • Strategic Acumen: A proven track record of managing complex, long-lead-time assets with a sharp eye for detail in contract negotiation, team leadership, and proactive risk mitigation.
  • Exceptional Communication: The ability to establish clear team objectives, delegate responsibilities effectively, and drive project execution with consistent, structured follow-through.
  • Analytical & Adaptive Judgement: A proactive problem-solver who collects critical information to make decisions, drives execution, and adapts quickly to changing project needs.
  • Collaborative Spirit: A professional who thrives in a lean, high-caliber team culture where autonomy is high, and peer collaboration is critical to success.
  • Credentials: A degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field is preferred.
