Description
The New Futures Program Coordinator manages the afterschool programming for school aged children and youth at one of the New Futures sites. New Futures is a program of Southwest Youth and Family Services and partners with families in their communities and with educators to ensure that children succeed in school and in life. Our integrated, culturally relevant programs build skills, foster connectedness, and promote strengths. We operate vibrant community learning centers at three low-income apartment complexes in South King County, providing services and community building programs on-site to children, youth, and families.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development
- Teach and coordinate after-school program for elementary school aged students to provide academic and social support.
- Build meaningful relationships and model appropriate, positive interactions with children and adults.
- Recruit and enroll children for the programs.
- Recruit, train, supervise and coordinate volunteers and tutors
Program Administration
- Conduct evaluation of the programs and program participants in accordance with New Futures’ strategies and funders’ guidelines.
- Actively evaluate overall program performance on a regular and ongoing basis and use collected information to make needed improvements.
- Document activities related to the programs, including children’s progress, family contacts, and program evaluation.
- Ensure that the programs are meeting goals and are aligned with Southwest Youth and Family Services’ mission and philosophy.
- Document volunteer hours.
- Manage program budgets and monitor expenditures.
- Participate in Southwest Youth and Family Services meetings and organizational initiatives.
- Effectively communicate (written and orally) with staff and community partners.
- Support all site activities and events through participation and attendance.
Community Relations
- Build and foster effective working relationships with staff, participants, volunteers, and the wider community.
- Act as intermediary between parents and school.
- Collaborate with school staff to provide support to children in after school program.
- Partner with families to support and encourage involvement in their children’s education.
- Conduct outreach and build relationships with families in the community.
- Conduct home visits to families of program children to discuss children’s participation in program.
- Coordinate parent workshops and meetings on a regular basis.
- Maintain ongoing communication with school staff to ensure after school program children’s progress and success in school.
- Effectively work with diverse communities in a culturally relevant way.
Requirements
- Commitment to the Vision, Values and Mission of the organization.
- Two years of successful experience working with diverse communities.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse communities in a culturally relevant way.
- Fluent in Spanish, Somali, or Amharic is a plus.
- A four-year degree in education or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Clear driving record with no more than two moving violations in the last three years
- Flexibility and ability to work varied schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
- The successful applicant must pass a criminal background check
Salary : $24 - $28
