Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, Southwest offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. Southwest also has associate’s degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Virginia Community College is seeking a motivated and self-directed individual for the position of Administrative Assistant to support the offices of Admissions, Records, and Accessibility Services. This part-time position will provide excellent customer service to students and prospective students and provide support with the application and enrollment processes. This Administrative Assistant will also assist faculty and staff who have questions related to the admissions and enrollment processes. Duties will also include processing program changes and dual enrollment registrations. This role will work also closely with the Director of Accessibilities with regard to scheduling student appointments, administering course testing with approved test accommodations such as proctored testing and read-aloud services.
Instructional faculty must reside in the state of Virginia or be available to teach in-person classes at Southwest Virginia Community College (Southwest) locations: Main Campus, Lebanon, Bluefield, Southern Gap, or at any assigned location within our service area.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team with demonstrated experience with organizational skills along with attention to accuracy
- Must have a strong ability to prioritize assignments to meet deadlines while ensuring that student service comes first
- Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends as needed with some overnight travel as requested
- Demonstrated professionalism and excellent customer service skills
- Strong written and verbal skills required
- Knowledge and skills related to various office technology needed
- Absolute confidentiality is required with all processes related to student information
- Associate’s degree preferred
- Experience in VCCS SIS (Student Information System) portal preferred
