What are the responsibilities and job description for the PT Administrative Assistant SBDC position at Southwest Virginia Community College?
Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
This position will serve as administrative office specialist 1 to the Program Manager of the Small Business Development Center at Southwest Virginia Community College. Tasks will include:
- Support the mission and goals of the Small Business Development Center and SWCC as well as those of the SBA and State SBDC network.
- Work directly with small businesses within the SWCC footprint including the counties of Buchanan, Russell, Tazewell and a part of Dickenson. Assist Program Manager with development of business plans, marketing strategies, loan applications, sources of finance, business structures, licenses, and numerous other business issues for startup and existing businesses.
- Procure office supplies/services as needed; Prepare travel arrangements.
- Assist with preparation of business-related workshops for private individuals, businesses, and the industrial community.
- Network with individuals, civic organizations and government entities to help in identifying sources of information and/or services related to small business.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Office management and clerical experience – must be able to work independently and with a team
- Proficient usage of Microsoft Suite, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; various other programs (i.e. VCCS System, Canva)
- Ability to multitask
- Must have strong written and verbal skills
- Must maintain confidentiality
- Must be able to work with a diverse group of individuals
- Experience with Google Docs, eVA, Calendly
- Professional writing skills
- Experience with office organization
- Experience with creating professional newsletters
