What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver (Arlington School District) position at Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union?
Provide safe and timely transportation (regular school day, field trips and extra-curricular/athletic trips) of students and others for the Arlington School District.
- Drive safely and transport students in accordance with time schedules to and from home, to both school buildings and to field trips and athletic events as assigned.
- Maintain proper licensure and training for driving duties.
- Perform a pre-trip safety inspection of bus including brakes, tires, lights, and pertinent equipment of bus. Report any mechanical problems to the Transportation Coordinator.
- Maintain interior and exterior bus cleanliness including sweeping and closing of windows at end of day.
- Operate bus under the posted speed limit.
- Use red lights and stop at railroad tracks, etc. as mandated by state law.
- Operate a two-way radio.
- Oversee the loading and unloading of students, releasing them to authorized individuals.
- Maintain order and proper discipline of passengers, resolving disputes and documenting and reporting severe disciplinary cases to building principal with copy of report to Superintendent.
- Service bus with fuel and oil as requested.
- Collect and return students’ personal property left on bus.
- Recognize mechanical safety hazards on a bus.
- Remain calm in an emergency situation.
- Ability to read and understand a map.
