Summary:

The Director of Clinical Services role is focused on growing, looking for a different way to drive our mission, and sustaining the best Organ Procurement Organization in the country. The director will oversee the day-to-day activities of the Clinical Services Department throughout STA’s service area. They work cross-departmentally to grow organ donation through effective referral management, determining donor suitability, effective donor management, organ allocation, and operating room coordination.


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with all levels of management to evaluate the organization's goals, strategic opportunities, and threats.
  • Ensures implementation and adherence to STA, OPTN, CMS policies and guidelines, as well as any other relevant regulatory requirements.
  • In collaboration with the VP of Clinical Services, directs the development and maintenance of procedures and policies related to organ management.
  • Aligns with cross functional teams to maximize donation opportunities through effective leadership, solid systems, and alignment.
  • Coaches, mentors, supports, and motivates the department leadership and top talent in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Services Department in a manner that is consistent with STA’s Core Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Establishes department budget and financial controls. Remains fiscally responsible with decision making and spending within the department.
  • Works in collaboration with education and development teams to ensure effective and timely training practices.
  • Assesses Southwest Transplant Alliance Clinical Operations for improvement opportunities as they relate to all roles of clinical staff and implement strategies which address identified needs.
  • Collaborates with People Services department in the recruiting, hiring, and onboarding process.
  • Collaborates with the Quality department to ensure ongoing process improvement and regulatory compliance, as well as collaboration on such initiatives as Quality Improvement, Lean Processes, and PDSA development and execution.
  • Initiates and maintains external relationships with STA stakeholders.
  • Participates in Southwest Transplant Alliance Administrator on Call responsibilities as needed.
  • Represents Southwest Transplant Alliance with local, regional, and national procurement and transplant organizations and other organizations as the need arises.

Compliance:

  • OSHA CATEGORY DEFINITION: Category 1 - The incumbent in this position has potential for occupational exposure.
  • The incumbent will have access to confidential material and is required to use discretion with this information and comply with STA Confidentiality policy.

Education, Experience and Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred; licensed as a registered nurse, physician’s assistant, or equivalent experience and related training required.
  • A minimum of five years of management experience to include recruiting, training and supervising staff experience preferred.
  • Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator, or eligible through the ABTC.
  • Minimum of three years of critical care experience and one year of expertise in all phases of the organ/tissue donation process and organ preservation.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent communication skills required. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and to represent the organization publicly.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required.
  • Ability to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workload.
  • Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive his/her personal auto to meet all job duties and responsibilities. Current Driver’s license required.
  • Proficient in MS office, including Word, Excel, and Power Point.

Physical Environment / Working Conditions:

Normal office environment, travel in light and commercial aircraft, or automobile to meet all the

duties and responsibilities of the position.
