Faculty - EMT/AEMT

Job Summary: 

Supports the College Mission to serve students, employers, and the College community. Provides leadership and quality education and job skill training in a safe, clean, positive, and productive learning environment. Participate collaboratively and professionally with students, faculty, staff, and college partners to promote the general well-being of the department and the college. 

Essential Functions:

1. Assist in planning, developing, presenting, and supervising learning opportunities for students in accordance with designated and approved course curriculum and assessments.
2. With the aid of the Instructional Systems Design team and guided by the Advisory Committee and Medical Director feedback, develops the curriculum according to defined criteria outlined in the Curriculum Quality Checklist, National EMS Education Standards, and CAAHEP Accreditation Standards.
3. Promotes job readiness, encourages professionalism and good work habits, and assists students in seeking and finding employment.
4. Works to meet College program and accreditation standards and requirements, including completion, placement, licensure, membership hours, headcount, certificates awarded, and retention (graduate completers).
5. Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly training area by ensuring adequate supplies to support continuous instruction, monitoring responsible use of supplies and equipment, and requesting and maintaining equipment as appropriate.
6. Orients new students to classroom facilities, technology, program/classroom performance, behavior expectations, procedures, and safety.
7. Supports student participation in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs).
8. Cooperatively develops and works within the assigned program budget.
9. Builds and maintains relationships with industry partners, developing and participating in Occupational Advisory Committee(s).
10. As applicable, and in collaboration with the Program Director and Clinical Coordinator, develop work-based learning activities (clinical and field externships) for students, arrange for supervision and evaluation of off-site students, and record and report progress and completion.
11. Participates in professional development opportunities, including training in distance education, if applicable.
12. May assist in the development and instruction of custom courses.
13. Ensures effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.
14. Participates in department and college meetings as appropriate.
15. Seeks always to promote a spirit of collegiality in dealings with college staff.
16. Contributes positively to the culture of the institution and upholds the “Guiding Principles.”
17. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:  

To perform at a proficient level and to be fully qualified, a person would be expected to have:

1. Education: HS Diploma or equivalent required.
2. Certifications: Current NREMT & Utah license and Utah BEMS Instructor Endorsement required. Course Coordinator endorsement preferred.
3. Specialized Knowledge/Skills:
   • Knowledgeable about methods of instruction, testing, and evaluation of students.
   • Have field experience in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care.
   • Have academic training and preparation related to emergency medical services at least equivalent to that of a paramedic.
   • Knowledgeable about the current versions of the National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Education Standards and evidence-informed clinical practice. 
4. Experience: A minimum of five years of industry-related experience. Have appropriate medical or allied health education, training, and experience.
5. Background Check: Must be able to pass a background check.

Environmental Factors: 

Conventional Educational Environment. In some programs, employees may occasionally be exposed to cleaning chemicals and the hazards associated with their respective industry equipment.
