The Organization:
Founded in 1958, the Southwest Section of the PGA of America serves more than 1,500 PGA Professionals and Associates across Arizona and Southern Nevada. These men and women are the recognized experts in growing, teaching, and managing the game of golf. The Southwest PGA oversees competitive tournaments, junior golf programs, educational opportunities, and initiatives designed to support its members and expand the game throughout the region. As the fifth largest of the PGA of America’s 41 Sections, the Southwest PGA plays a vital role in advancing the profession and strengthening the game at every level.

The Section conducts more than 40 tournaments annually, including four premier championships:

  • Southwest PGA Spring Masters Championship
  • Southwest PGA Match Play Championship
  • Arizona Open Championship
  • Southwest PGA Championship/PPC

The Position:
The Southwest Section PGA is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Tournament Operations Coordinator to join our full-time staff. Reporting to the Director of Rules & Competitions, this position plays a key role in the execution of more than 40 annual tournaments and championships, as well as junior golf initiatives across Arizona and Southern Nevada. The Assistant Tournament Director will gain hands-on experience in championship administration, golf operations, and event management within one of the largest PGA Sections in the country. This is a full-time position with benefits and requires travel throughout the Section.

Primary Responsibilities:

Tournament Administration & Operations

  • Assist in managing online tournament and seminar registrations, including eligibility verification.
  • Produce tournament materials including pairings, scorecards, score sheets, rules sheets, handicap research (as applicable), and pace-of-play reports.
  • Coordinate event logistics with host PGA Professionals and golf course superintendents.
  • Support on-site tournament operations including course setup, registration, starting, scoring, and breakdown.
  • Assist in the execution of the Section’s four major championships and additional Section events.

Junior Golf & Player Development

  • Assist with day-to-day coordination of Southwest PGA junior golf programs, including:
  • Firebirds
  • Junior Prep Tour
  • PGA Junior League Golf
  • Provide administrative support and service to PGA Professionals conducting junior programming.
  • In cooperation with the PGA of America, USGA, and Augusta National Golf Club, assist with operations for Drive, Chip & Putt local, sub-regional, and regional qualifiers.

Communications & Administrative Support

  • Update and post tournament news, results, and highlights across Southwest PGA social media platforms.
  • Support departmental initiatives and assist other Section departments as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Rules & Competitions.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of golf tournament administration experience required; three (3) or more years preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or current pursuit of a four-year degree (sports management, business, communications, or related field preferred).
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and solve problems in high-pressure environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital communication platforms.
  • Experience with BlueGolf tournament software is preferred.
  • USGA certification in the Rules of Golf or on a path to achieve certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Willingness to work extended hours during tournament season, including weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout Arizona and Southern Nevada.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • High integrity, professionalism, and a team-first mindset.
