Shop Service/Heavy Equipment Apprentice
Title: Shop Apprentice [Level I] Job Type: Hourly / Non-Exempt Department: Service Location: Las Cruces, NMSupervisor: Branch Manager
SUMMARY
As a Shop Apprentice at Southwest JCB, you will be an integral member of the service department. The position’s primary focus is to perform quality preventive maintenance activities, diagnose and troubleshoot assigned equipment, and complete repairs by replacing defective parts while providing the highest level of customer service and satisfaction. The shop apprentice will diagnose and repair various JCB and non-JCB equipment and components in a shop environment, completing all required documentation. In addition, various inspections, preparation of new machines, installation of attachments on machines, and machine movements in the yard are duties to be performed. JCB North America offers various machine-specific online prerequisite modules and both virtual and in-person training opportunities that Shop Apprentices are expected to complete to advance their skill sets, pay scale, and careers with Southwest JCB.
Responsibilities:

- Work in a shop environment on various JCB and non-JCB machines as assigned
- Diagnose and repair equipment and components
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on JCB equipment in a shop environment as directed, following outlined procedures and completing proper documentation.
- Properly request the required parts to get the repair fixed correctly the first time.
- Using company-provided IT hardware, properly document various processes for compliance with JCBNA warranty, new machine intake, and machine sale procedures
- Communicate repair progress to the Service Manager and the customer to ensure high customer satisfaction.
- Use of company vehicles and special tooling properly, including maintaining all company-owned assets in a clean and safe manner
- Become proficient with all electronic systems, portals, tooling, and diagnostic resources to be effective in the role.
- Completing all paperwork promptly, including work orders, parts orders, time, etc.
- Account for 40% or greater time on duty against work orders or warranty claims
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures
- Other duties and projects as assigned by direct management
Education/Additional Requirements:
- A minimum of 1 - 3 years of experience repairing and maintaining construction equipment and/or diesel engines (substitute graduation from a technical trade school for experience
- Hydraulic, Electrical, and Drive Train experience is a plus
- Ability to weld (Stick, MIG, TIG) and use of a cutting torch, or the willingness and ability to learn these skills, is a plus
- A high school diploma or equivalent and basic math skills.
- Computer-literate with the ability to process information, learn systems, and develop skills in the use of IT hardware
- Ability to communicate, prioritize, and maintain time management.
- Capable of accomplishing tasks independently without direct supervision.
- Physically able to perform duties and lift to 75 lbs.
- Maintain a great attitude toward work.
- Adheres to company policies, procedures, and practices as required.
- Work in a wide range of environmental & ground conditions, including extreme heat and extreme cold
- Acceptable driving record.
- A history of safe work habits.
- Driven, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Valid Driver’s License/Acceptable Driving Record.

Apprentice [Tech Level 1] – Entry level with 1 – 3 years’ experience D.O.E. $17.00 – $23.00
