POSITION DESCRIPTION – Safety Case Manager
Assist families in gaining and utilizing skills necessary to participate successfully in community settings through effective implementation of their safety plan. Day to day management of safety services including but not limited to teaching families the following skills: behavior management, crisis management, social connection, resource support and separation.
Purpose:
Safety Case Managers shall provide services through the SWICS Safety Services Program to assist families involved with the County and who require in-home safety services. Safety Case Managers shall coordinate, deliver and monitor safety services that will allow children to remain in their home.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
- Must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Human or Social Services, Sociology, Education, Special Education, Behavioral Science, Counseling, Early Childhood, Health Science, Child Development, Nursing, Communications, or a related field AND
- Must have 3 years of full-time professional level experience providing protective casework/counseling services, assessments or treatment services in a child welfare, social service, juvenile justice and/or residential setting and
- The ability to maintain confidentiality regarding family information as required by applicable federal, state and local statures and regulations.
- Pass a state/federal background check without felonies at his/her own expense.
- Adhere to criminal background/records check requirements.
- Have and maintain a valid Nevada drivers license.
- Have and maintain a working vehicle with full coverage insurance
- Be computer literate
- Be able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms of communication
Services/Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Safety Case Managers shall directly provide day-to-day management of the Safety Services that have been dictated in each in-home safety plan.
- Contribute to ongoing monitoring and support with families to assure safety management and effective safety plan implementation.
- Maintain proper documentation and case files i.e. family case records/case notes.
- Attend meeting as necessary regarding safety plan determination and delivery of safety services.

- Persons performing service in this position classification may need to exert 10 to 25 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

- Persons performing service in this position classification will become certified in Mandt System Techniques/CPI – crisis intervention: Nonphysical Interactions to include philosophy, attitude, nonverbal communication, verbal communication, walking with, accompanying; Physical Interactions to include assisting (nonphysical, physical), physical touch, separating, restraining (physical restraint standing which is seldom).
- Persons performing service in this position classification will need to understand the importance of stance and balance (posture), body mechanics and movement (body shifting, use of lower abdomen, use of hips to help with center of gravity), and body positioning in relationship to another person (limit entry/exit to a room, accompany, where to be when turning) to provide safe and secure assistance.
- This type of work involves sitting in various table, desk and/or chair sizes, walking, participating in various physical activities (jumping rope, basketball, throwing balls, running, skipping, other physical activities), standing, sitting on the floor, kneeling down to smaller children.
- This type of work involves navigating stairwells, participating in fire drills or other drills during an emergency situation.
This type of work involves manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, perceive the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral and written information.
