Requirements
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Nursing, Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree preferred.
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Wisconsin in good standing required.
- Two to four years’ prior managerial experience with demonstrated administrative and leadership ability preferred.
- Minimum of five years of hospital clinical experience preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point.
Work Hours
We are seeking a full-time (40 hours/week) Director of Med/Surg.
Job Summary
Manages the overall operation of the Southwest Health Medical/Surgical Unit on a 24-hour basis in accordance with current federal, State, local, and (The Joint Commission) TJC standards. Fulfills the responsibilities of a Registered Nurse within the department as necessary.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

- Supervises and reviews nursing staff.
- Oversees the department’s budgets.
- Reports to high-level staff members.
- Ensures staff maintain high standards of care.
- Interacts with doctors, patients, and family members.
- Immediately investigates injuries of unknown origin, allegations of abuse, neglect, or misappropriation according to policy guidelines.
- Notifies Chief Nursing Officer, or other Executive as needed and as per protocol regarding patient care issues.
- Adheres to Southwest Health’s value-based behavior standards.
- Understands and adheres to Southwest Health compliance and HIPAA standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
