What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hazardous Waste Manager position at Southwest Hazard Control?
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Waste Manager to oversee waste management operations at Southwest Hazard Control (SHC). SHC is an environmental company that provides asbestos/mold/lead and hazardous waste disposal services in Arizona and New Mexico. The Hazmat Manager would be responsible for beginning to end management of various hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams with multiple clients. The position involves direct interaction with both clients and waste disposal facilities on a case-by-case basis. The position will require on-site visits and occasional site supervision.
Responsibilities
- Work directly with clients to ensure their hazardous and non-hazardous waste is profiled, packaged, shipped and disposed of properly.
- Ensures proper documentation and handling of solid, liquid, non-hazardous/hazardous and mixed waste streams.
- Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory requirements associated with best safety, environment, inspection, packaging and transportation activities.
- Prepare waste profiles, manifest, and related paperwork.
- Work directly with disposal facilities to provide all necessary paperwork to ensure that the waste is handled and disposed of properly.
Requirements
- 1-5 years prior work experience with a proven track record in the environmental industry.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience with an emphasis on Chemistry and Technical Science.
- Strong knowledge and experience with handling, characterizing, packaging and/or transporting solid, liquid, hazardous and or mixed wastes.
- 40-hour Hazardous Waste and Emergency Operations (HAZWOPER) Certificate preferred.
- EPA’s Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training preferred.
- USDOT HAZMAT Certification preferred.
- Certified Hazardous Waste Manger (CHMM) Certification preferred.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulation relating to the handling and management of solid, liquid, hazardous and or mixed wastes.
- Strong customer service skills, excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work in a busy office setting.
- Understanding of chemistry, cradle to grave management and disposal of non-hazardous and hazardous waste streams.
