Summary
Position Summary: The Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)-Wound Care Program provides high quality, outpatient care to patients and families in the Wound Care Center under the supervision of a physician. The APRN must be knowledgeable and maintain competence in wound healing and advanced wound care modalities, and will hold responsibility for supervising Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy services.
Education: Graduate with a Master's Degree of Nursing in a Nurse Practitioner program from an accredited program and registered in the State of Ohio, Nursing Board.
Required length and type of experience:
- Minimum two years of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Wound Care experience a plus
- Current BLS Certification (ACLS a plus)
Required licensure, certification or registry: Nurse Practitioner-Certified; Registered with the State Nursing Board of Ohio. Primary
Performance Expectations
Clinical
- Evaluates and manages patients for wound care and ensuring delivered care meets current standards of practice.
- Adheres to Healogics clinical practice guidelines for wound care
- Demonstrates competency in the position of wound care including assessment, debridement and hyperbaric oxygen treatment.
- Participates in the Quality Improvement Program to optimize quality service and maintain a high level of patient satisfaction.
- Serves as a patient advocate, initiating action to provide continuity of care outside the facility setting.
Operations
- Maintains and retains appropriate patient records, claims and correspondence as it relates to quality assurance procedures, billing & collections, and management reporting systems.
- Ensures documentation is complete relative to the care provided.
- Ensures signatures on Superbills and verifies appropriate diagnostic codes are marked.
- Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations.
- Performs designated administrative duties and maintains appropriate records and claims.
Supervision of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
- Successfully complete an approved 40‑hour Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy training course to ensure competency in HBO clinical practice.
- Identify, assess, and evaluate patients who are appropriate candidates for HBO therapy.
- Determine, document, and justify medical necessity for HBO treatment in alignment with clinical guidelines.
- Provide patient‑centered education regarding HBO therapy, including indications, expectations, potential risks, and overall treatment plan.
- Write orders for pre-treatment testing and HBO therapy.
- Apply advanced clinical judgment to manage HBO patients in accordance with HBO Clinical Practice Guidelines and evidence‑based standards.
- Monitor and document progress of patients receiving HBO therapy.
Other
- Complies with all Healogics Policies and Procedures, as well as with those of facility.
- Develops advanced knowledge of wound care and dermatology.
- Maintains corporate and patient confidentiality pertaining to financial arrangements and information, marketing efforts and techniques, policies and procedures, and operational strategies in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
- Demonstrates the ability to modify treatment approach and evaluation of effectiveness relative to age-specific variables when appropriate.
- Participates in education, research and leadership activities.
- Participates in professional organizations related to wound care.
- Maintains CEUs as required by State of license.
- Maintains and keeps current all licenses, permits, registrations and certifications.
- Performs designated administrative duties and other duties assigned as necessary.
