Electrical Power Test Field Technician-Trainee

Location and team
SouthWest Electritech Services, located in Las Vegas, NV, is one of the fastest growing electrical testing service providers in the Southwest. We are seeking an Electrical Power Testing Technician to set up and perform tests and evaluate test results for electrical power equipment in accordance with industry standards.
Summary of responsibilities:
- Work under the general direction of the Field Supervisor or Manager using available test procedures and data to set up, test, and assist in the evaluation of the electrical performance of all types of electrical apparatus
- Inspect and test equipment and circuits to identify malfunctions or defects using wiring diagrams and testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters or ammeters
- Consult manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams and engineering personnel in order to trouble shoot and solve equipment problems and to determine optimum equipment functioning
- Apply general knowledge of electrical circuits, equipment and knowledge of laboratory equipment to determine safe operating limits of test apparatus. Make basic calculations to obtain circuit constants such as resistances, reactance, power factors, voltages, currents and other similar information required in test circuitry
- Analyze test data in order to diagnose malfunctions, determine performance characteristics of systems and to evaluate effects of system modifications
- Operate material moving equipment as required
- Check accuracy of own work and the work of others
- Guide and assist in training of other team members as applicable
- May perform other duties as assigned
What we're asking
- Prefer a four year electrical engineering degree or a diploma from a recognized trade school in the electrical power field
- 2 years experience in the work described herein, and in the use of the various types of electrical testing equipment also preferred
- Electrician background, knowledge of the National Electrical Code and Electrical Safe Work Practices is required
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Ability to work independently and complete work assignments without continuous supervision
- The ability to work with others as a team
- Willingness to travel to client locations as required (20% to 40% travel expected)
- Ability to work flexible hours (based on project requirements)
- May require climbing, working overhead or in confined spaces; team members regularly work in outdoor weather conditions
- The ability to lift up to 70 pounds is required; periodically heavier lifting may be necessary
- Ability to learn and, at all times, adhere to proper safety protocols is required
- Computer skills with programs such as MS Excel and Word
- Clean background check and driving record
