Senior Accountant – Construction / Project Accounting
Location: San Antonio, TX (in office)
Compensation: $90,000 – $105,000 base salary discretionary bonus (commensurate with experience)

The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, understands the complexities of job cost accounting and construction financial reporting, and is energized by building and refining accounting processes within a growing organization.
This role will also support contract financial review, customer credit evaluation, and bonding administration, helping ensure that new jobs are properly structured within our systems before work begins.

Project & Cost Accounting
- Oversee job cost accounting to ensure accuracy and integrity of project financial data
- Review job cost reports and assist in monitoring project profitability and margin performance
- Support revenue recognition under percentage-of-completion or other applicable methodologies
- Analyze project costs, change orders, and contract values
- Partner with operations and project teams to ensure financial data reflects project performance
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare and review journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
- Maintain accuracy of key construction accounting accounts including WIP, retainage, and accrued costs
- Support preparation of financial statements and external audit requests
- Perform accounting review of customer contracts prior to job setup
- Ensure contracts are properly structured for revenue recognition, billing, and job cost tracking
- Coordinate job setup within Spectrum Viewpoint, ensuring accurate contract values, cost codes, billing terms, and tax settings
- Identify financial risk items such as retainage terms, payment structures, and billing schedules
- Partner with project managers to ensure contract terms align with accounting and reporting requirements
- Review and approve new customer setups, including credit checks and risk assessment
- Establish customer payment terms and credit limits where appropriate
- Maintain integrity of customer master data within the ERP system
- Support mitigation of credit risk through deposits, advance billing, or modified payment terms when needed
- Review project locations and contract details to determine sales tax applicability
- Ensure correct tax settings are applied during job setup
- Assist in developing processes to track and manage multi-state tax exposure as the company grows
- Coordinate bonding documentation with surety partners and project teams
- Track bonded job requirements and maintain bond documentation
- Assist with financial information required for bonding capacity reviews
- Build and document scalable accounting processes as the organization grows
- Improve workflows related to job cost accounting, contract review, billing, and financial reporting
- Strengthen internal controls and improve consistency across accounting activities
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes within Spectrum Viewpoint
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5 years of accounting experience, with strong exposure to construction or project accounting
- Strong understanding of job cost accounting and construction financial reporting
- Experience with Spectrum Viewpoint strongly preferred
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience supporting audits and financial statement preparation
- CPA or CPA-track a plus
- Experience working in growing or evolving organizations
- Familiarity with contract financial review and risk identification
- Experience working with operations and project teams
