Starting Wage: $17.00 per hour

The Clubhouse Generalist plays a vital role in supporting adults living with mental illness as equal partners in the daily operations of a psychosocial rehabilitation program accredited by Clubhouse International. This position requires the ability to model a strong work ethic, maintain a positive and calm demeanor in a dynamic environment, and consistently engage members in meaningful work during the work-ordered day. Generalists help carry out the mission of the clubhouse by fostering a recovery-oriented, inclusive, and productive community.

Work hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Includes a full benefit package with paid leave, holidays, medical, dental, vision, retirement match, and enrollment in the Utah Retirement System.

Key Responsibilities

Member Engagement & Program Support

  • Engage members in side-by-side work to complete clubhouse operations, including operations, kitchen, light facilities maintenance, employment, and social programming.
  • Collaborate with members to create instruction sheets for common clubhouse tasks.
  • Ability to create impromptu tasks on a daily basis as a means to engage members meaningfully in the work-ordered day.
  • Assist members in creating flyers, announcements, sign-up sheets, and other media to support clubhouse communication, awareness and engagement.
  • Encourage member independence, leadership, and confidence by modeling consistency, clarity, and mutual respect.
  • Maintain professional relationships and boundaries with members and coworkers while demonstrating flexibility and compassion.

Transitional Employment Support

  • Serve as a placement manager for members in transitional employment positions, including the ability to:
    • Travel to offsite job locations.
    • Stand or be on feet for up to 4 hours at a time.
    • Lift up to 40 pounds as required.
  • Assist members in exploring employment, educational, and volunteer opportunities, including working with local businesses to create placements.
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of Social Security income reporting requirements, employment networks, benefits management, and available resources.

Kitchen & Food Services

  • Ability to assist in food preparation for up to 40 people, following safe food handling protocols.
  • Collaborate with members to create menus, manage kitchen budgets, and support healthy, cost-effective meal planning.
  • Apply comparison shopping and practical budgeting techniques in food purchasing, preparation and tracking of expenses with the assistance of clubhouse members.

Documentation & Administrative Tasks

  • Complete all required paperwork and documentation in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner in compliance with center policies.
    • Must be able to type at least 30 words per minute, or use alternate methods to complete the average psychosocial rehab note in under 5 minutes.
  • Utilize the agency's electronic health record (EHR) system to enter and retrieve client information.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Google software, including documents, spreadsheets and shared drives.
  • Ability to create and use spreadsheets to track clubhouse activities, revenues, expenses and other data conducive to the work-ordered day.

Organization & Environment Management

  • Create and maintain systems and procedures for recurring clubhouse tasks and operations. Tasks could include tracking maintenance requests and efforts made to resolve the request, monitoring outreach efforts to clubhouse members, and the like.
  • Keep clubhouse areas clean, organized, and functional, supporting member participation in space maintenance.
  • Work with members to develop a sense of shared ownership and pride in their accomplishments in the clubhouse.

Time & Task Management

  • Balance multiple priorities and responsibilities effectively in a dynamic environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Remain focused, calm, and nonreactive when others are upset or in distress.
  • Demonstrate strong skills in time management, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and working independently without constant supervision.

Community Engagement

  • Participate in outreach and advocacy efforts to raise awareness about the Clubhouse and its mission.
  • Maintain knowledge of community and regional resources related to housing, employment, mental health, and substance use services.

Transportation

  • Safely transport members as needed for employment, appointments, or activities.
  • Complete all required transportation forms and logs in a timely manner.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • The Clubhouse Model and Clubhouse International Standards (training available).
  • Basic knowledge of substance use and mental health disorders and related treatment programs.
  • Community and regional resources for social problem-solving.

Ability to:

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with members, staff, and the community.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Work independently and manage daily tasks in a high interpersonal contact environment.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and adhere to ethical guidelines and center policies.
  • Stay alert, positive, and emotionally grounded in fast-paced or stressful environments.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks while managing competing demands on time.
  • Assist members from diverse backgrounds with patience and cultural humility.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Experience in mental health, human services, education, or community-based programs preferred.
  • Strong alignment with the values and principles of the Clubhouse Model.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift up to 40 lbs, and perform hands-on tasks as part of daily operations.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills.
  • Skills in data tracking and report writing.

Work Environment

This position involves frequent standing, walking, and participation in hands-on clubhouse work. The environment is collaborative, energetic, and member-centered, with a strong emphasis on engaging clubhouse members in meaningful work.
