What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructor/Assistant/Associate/Professor of Biology position at Southwest Baptist University?
Summary/Objective
Academic professors serve SBU through their teaching, service and professional efforts. This nine-month position, starting at back-to-school workshop in August and ending in May provides the majority of teaching for the courses of the department, advises majors for the formation of course schedules and post-graduation opportunities, and advises non-majors concerning the courses offered by the department.
Essential Job Duties
· Teach an average minimum of 12 credit hours per semester
· Teaches laboratory sections as assigned
· Advise and mentor students in academic pursuits
· Assist in the evaluation and development of curricula
· Serve on committees as assigned
· Maintain office hours
· Ensure positive learning environment for students
· Comply with University guidelines regarding faculty duties and requirements
· Participate in academic processions and wear academic regalia as required
· Attend division and university recruiting events and student visits as assigned
· Attend division, college, and all-faculty meetings when held
· Regular attendance and punctuality
· Sets an example of a Christian lifestyle for students, staff and faculty
· Commitment and adherence to Southwest Baptist University’s Principles and Expectations
· Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements
Required
· A committed evangelical Christian
· A master’s degree in biology or biology education is required.
· To be eligible for a position above the rank of instructor, a PhD in biology or biology education is required.
· A commitment to teaching in an undergraduate, Christian liberal arts program
· A desire to mentor students in their coursework, research, and personal lives
· An interest and background in the successful integration of their Christian faith with their discipline
Preferred
· Knowledge of his/her field with a record of scholarship and a willingness to conduct research in an undergraduate setting
· Particular interest in the areas of anatomy and physiology
· Teaching experience with documented excellence
· A track record of research and scholarly activity in the undergraduate setting

Physical Abilities
· Frequently educates students in a classroom setting and is able to communicate accurate information and ideas in these situations.
· Frequently educates students in a laboratory setting and is able to communicate accurate information and ideas in these situations.
· Occasionally works with laboratory equipment and moves equipment as needed and prepares the area for student to learn in a safe environment
· Occasionally moves about the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
