Terms of Employment
This is a 9 month position for 7 hours/day (plus 1/2 hour unpaid lunch). This position is eligible for medical coverage only.
Purpose
Provides both direct and indirect support to promote student learning in the special education and general education settings as directed by the Skills Lab teacher(s). Acts as an extension of the teacher through an integrated program to promote the social, emotional and behavioral skill development of students. Prepares the necessary instructional materials according to the teacher's direction to implements individual education programs (IEP). Implements behaviors intervention plans (BIP) when necessary. Other responsibilities as needed and determined by the Special Education Director.
Qualifications
Completion of two years of study (60 hours) at an institution of higher education or possession of an associate's (or higher) degree is preferred. Previous experience as a classroom assistant desirable. Candidates must have a sincere interest in working with students in the learning process. Effective communication skills. Ability to take direction. Initiative and dependability in carrying out assignments. Patience and genuine interest in education of students. Awareness and respect for student diversity. Clerical skills, flexibility, and confidentiality required. Training for this position will be implemented upon hiring.
