The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior ABL Business Development Officer to join our dynamic team. Reporting directly to the President, this role will focus on originating and structuring asset-based loans, cultivating strong client and referral relationships, and collaborating with our underwriting team to drive new business growth.

This is a senior-level, high-impact position ideal for a strategic thinker and proven dealmaker who thrives in building relationships, developing creative financing solutions, and leading transactions from origination through closing.


Key Responsibilities

  • Origination & Relationship Building
    • Develop new business opportunities directly and through established centers of influence.
    • Build, strengthen, and maintain referral networks with accountants, attorneys, equity and mezzanine investors, peer banks, and affiliates.
  • Transaction Structuring & Analysis
    • Conduct preliminary prospect analysis, including structuring and pricing deals based on credit risk.
    • Prepare and present detailed proposals tailored to prospective client needs.
    • Draft memoranda to secure senior management approval for proposals.
  • Deal Execution
    • Partner closely with the underwriting team to ensure timely loan closings.
    • Provide support on credit approval memoranda, loan documentation, and client onboarding.
  • Market Leadership
    • Represent SouthStar Capital as a trusted advisor in the marketplace.
    • Demonstrate thought leadership in ABL and working capital solutions to deepen client relationships and expand market share.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • 10–15 years of proven experience in asset-based lending.
  • Deep expertise in credit analysis, risk management, and deal structuring.
  • Strong executive presence with extensive client-facing experience at the C-suite level.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft and deliver holistic working capital solutions across diverse client needs.
  • Proven success in fostering long-term client relationships, driving account growth, and deepening partnerships.
  • Track record of building collaborative partnerships across lines of business to identify opportunities and drive sustainable revenue growth.
  • Strong people leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Technical proficiency in Salesforce, MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Flexibility to travel as required.
  • Ability to thrive in a hybrid/flexible work environment, with an expectation of at least three days per week in-office (in markets where offices are located) and the flexibility to work remotely on other days.
