Southside Virginia Community College is currently accepting applications for a Housekeeper position for second shift. We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented individual who is committed to supporting the College's mission by helping maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across our campus. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring classrooms, offices, common areas, and other facilities are clean, sanitary, and well-maintained for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Some of the responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Maintains clean, neat, and orderly conditions throughout interior buildings and exterior grounds areas.
- Performs housekeeping duties, including cleaning classrooms and restrooms; sweeping, damp mopping, cleaning spills, and emptying trash
- Performs floor maintenance duties, including stripping, sealing, waxing, and buffing floors as assigned.
- Coordinates and assists with setting up equipment and furniture for events, meetings, and other campus activities, as needed
- Conducts periodic rounds of campus buildings and parking lots to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, facilities, and equipment, reporting any concerns to the Buildings & Grounds Supervisor.
- Responds to requests and assists students, faculty, staff, and visitors by helping with directions, addressing clean-up needs, and offering general support as needed
- Assist with building evacuations during emergencies and helps obtain assistance for medical and security emergencies
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including different shifts, weekends, and special events, to meet operational needs
- Assists with the distribution of campus mail and delivery of outgoing mail to the local Post Office, as needed
- Performs preventive maintenance and monitors mechanical systems during shift, and reports any problems to the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor
- Secures campus facilities by locking and unlocking doors and ensuring lights and unused equipment are properly turned on or off.
- Experience in performing cleaning tasks, floor care, restroom cleaning, and general custodial care
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and use of cleaning chemicals and supplies, and of safety practices as related to the work
- Ability to perform a variety of cleaning tasks, lift and move heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to operate manual and power equipment
- Ability to deliver exceptional customer service
- Ability to read and understand product labels, handling instructions, user manuals, etc
- Ability to work without close supervision
- Ability to read and understand simple instructions
- Ability to operate computers and use basic software such as e-mail, time reporting, and work order applications
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality of information accessed while performing duties in classrooms, office spaces, and other campus facilities
- Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision while following established policies and procedures, and as part of a team
- Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver's license
- Knowledge of the proper way to strip, seal, wax, and buff floors
- Knowledge of basic security
