Medical Biller & Patient Checkout Specialist

Full-time position combining medical billing with patient checkout. You will handle claim submissions, payment posting, and insurance follow-up while also supporting the front desk with patient checkout in a busy private optometry practice.

About Us

Southside Eyecare & Optical is a private optometry practice in Anchorage, Alaska dedicated to exceptional eye care. We are a close-knit team looking for a detail-oriented, self-directed person to join us full-time.

Medical Billing (Primary)

Submit electronic and paper claims across medical insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid. Post payments and EOBs. Work claim denials, rejections, and appeals. Prepare CMS-1500 forms and Medicaid crossover claims. Monitor patient invoices to ensure transactions are properly authorized. Verify patient insurance eligibility as needed.

Patient Checkout (Secondary)

Process patient checkout including collecting copays and balances. Explain insurance benefits and patient responsibility clearly. Assist front desk during high-volume periods or staff absences.

Required

Minimum 2 years medical billing experience. Experience with medical insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid. CMS-1500 and paper claim experience. Strong attention to detail. Comfortable with patient-facing interactions.

Preferred

Optometry or ophthalmology experience. Alaska Medicaid billing experience. RevolutionEHR experience — we will train the right candidate. Medical billing certification such as CPC or CPB.
