Role Overview
You will serve as our full time MLL Instructor and Content-Based Integration (CBI) MLL Instructor, partnering directly with K–5 classroom teachers to embed SIOP-aligned lessons and MLL instructional strategies into everyday academic content. You will co-plan and co-teach in ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies classes in a K-5 setting—modeling scaffolds, adapting materials, and providing real-time language support to our MLL population.
All service minutes must be tracked accurately to maintain RIDE and Title III compliance.
Core Responsibilities
Push-In Content Integration (70–80%)
Co-teach and support multilingual learners within ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies classrooms.
Scaffold content and language objectives in real time using SIOP-aligned strategies.
Collaborate with general-education teachers to differentiate lessons and adapt materials.
Mandated ELD Instruction (20–30%) TESOL Certified only.
Deliver pull-out ELD instruction to fulfill state-mandated minutes if ESOL-certified.
Design and implement explicit English Language Development by targeting listening, speaking, reading, and writing, aligned lessons adapted to WIDA ELD Standards.
Compliance & Documentation
Record and report all push-in (CBI) and pull-out (ELD) service minutes for each MLL student.
Maintain up-to-date minute logs for the MLL minutes.
Submit weekly service reports to the principal.
Collaboration & Reporting
Attend weekly planning meetings with the MLL Coordinator and grade-level teams.
Provide regular updates to the MLL Coordinator and Principal on student progress and service delivery.
Qualifications
Required:
Experience working with Elementary aged school children K-5
Experience with the K-12 RI Common Core Standards for K-5
Experience writing and delivering lesson plans that are SIOP informed and contain all four domains: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Experience co-teaching and working alongside General Education Teachers
RI elementary teaching certification with either an MLL endorsement or
a RI PK–12 ESOL Certification
Demonstrated experience or training in co-teaching and sheltered instruction (e.g., SIOP).
Excellent organizational skills for precise minute-tracking and compliance reporting
Preferred:
1 years of experience teaching multilingual learners in elementary school settings.
Familiarity with WIDA ELD Standards sand lesson planning
Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese).
Mandatory Requirements
Elementary Education (Grades 1–6) certification with one of the following:
Dual/Bilingual Certification
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certification
An MLL endorsement in Elementary Education (Grades 1–6)
Additionally, RI background check, fingerprinting, and TB clearance are required.
Weekly Schedule: combination of push-in CBI periods and/or pull-out ELD blocks, depending on certification.
