About the Role
The Dental Assistant Apprentice delivers high-quality customer/patient service, quality dental care and administrative support. Responsible for providing chair-side support to the dentists, hygienists and therapists providing primary care dental services to patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain compliance with MNACHH program standards, including attendance at required Saturday labs.
Deliver high-quality dental care within licensure scope, following best practice guidelines.
Adhere to SCHS workflows, clinical protocols, and operational policies.
Collaborate across disciplines to support integrated healthcare and improve access to dental services.
Participate actively in staff meetings, committees, and community education efforts.
Complete administrative tasks promptly, including training modules, policy attestations, incident reports, and email correspondence.
Manage timekeeping accurately—review timecards, submit PTO requests, and arrive before patient start times.
Stay current with credentialing, licensure, and certification requirements.
Document patient care in a timely manner, including chart sign-offs and Epic in-basket responses within 48 hours.
Follow SCHS coding templates and strive for EHR accuracy.
Support equipment maintenance and supply management.
Perform routine clinical duties (daily, weekly, monthly) as assigned.
Fulfill full patient contact hours based on FTE.
Uphold high standards of professionalism and due diligence.
Take on additional responsibilities as needed

Experience and Requirements:
Enrolled in MNACHC Dental Assistant Apprenticeship Program
CPR Certification
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
High school diploma or GED
Position Details and Benefits
This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), hourly, non-exempt position with a starting wage of $19.00/hour with scheduled increases to $20.50 after six months and $23.00 upon successful completion of the apprenticeship program.
The regular work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Please note that scheduling may vary during the summer months.

The Minnesota Association of Community Health Centers (MNACHC) offers a free, 12-month Dental Assistant Apprenticeship Program for individuals pursuing a career in dental assistance. Please note that the program is currently unaccredited; therefore, graduates will be classified as unlicensed dental assistants in the state of Minnesota upon completion. Program starts on January 5, 2026

Work Environment
This position operates in a professional dental clinic environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment.
Physical demands include:
Constant communication between patients, providers, and other staff.
Frequently move within the clinic to room patients, perform tasks, and change positions to retrieve items.
Manipulate dental instruments, computer and office equipment and perform 4 handed dentistry
Frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds short distances of 10 yards or less and occasionally assist patients of varying body sizes onto or off of exam chair.
Occasionally maintain a stationary position while performing procedures, ascend and descend stairs to retrieve items from storage.
Works with chemicals typically utilized in dental procedures including occasional exposure to chemicals such as nitrous oxide and radiation from performing x-rays.
Must be able to recognize and respond to potential signs of oral health issues or alcohol impairment through appropriate sensory or observational means.
