Hours: 6 Hours per Day, 180 Days per Year

Salary: $20.86 - $24.27 (Salary Schedules)

 

Earn up to $.60/hour extra, based on the number of college-level credits you have earned.

This position will begin with the 2026-2027 school year. New hires may attend paid training days in August. 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The person in this position will work directly with students in the Southridge High School classroom and other school settings. The paraeducator is responsible for carrying through prescribed instructional programs under the direction of certificated staff. Other duties will include adapting and making materials appropriate to instructional needs, participating in recess, lunch, and/or crosswalk duty, and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

  1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test.
  3. Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA degree or equivalent to application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.
  4. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  5. Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
  6. Must pass a basic skills test.
  7. First Aid/CPR certified within 30 days of employment.
  8. Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  9. Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

 

  1. Successful experience working with elementary aged children.
  2. Demonstrated experience using computers and technology applications including Windows software.
  3. Evidence of flexibility and adaptability.
  4. Evidence of a strong academic background in content areas of reading, writing and math. 
  5. Evidence of ability to communicate effectively and work with a variety of people.
  6. Ability to supervise children during lunch and on the playground which includes develop appropriate games and activities for young children.
  7. Positive evaluations and recommendations.
  8. Evidence of excellent attendance, punctuality and dependability.
  9. Evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.
  10. Ability to work with all children within the school setting, regardless of abilities and cultural background.
  11. Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  12. Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  13. Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
  14. Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  15. Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
  16. Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
  17. Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
  18. Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.

 

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

 

  • Experience working with home schooled students.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Assist in the classrooms under teacher direction, using developmentally appropriate activities
  2. Prepare instructional materials as requested
  3. Supervise playground, lunchroom and crosswalk duties as requested using appropriate safety measures. 
  4. Lead organized activities and games during recess and playtime.
  5. Assist with first-aid as needed.
  6. Maintain records as directed.
  7. Assist in supervision and control of students in order to promote a safe, orderly and positive learning climate.
  8. Maintain a professional and confidential relationship with all students and families and their records.
  9. Communicate as needed with supervisor and other staff regarding work or student related issues.
  10. Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
  11. Perform all other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret educational materials. Ability to write business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, staff and parents.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimal numbers. Ability to calculate percentages, discounts, proportions, area, circumference, and volume. 
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
