Description: Assists in the preparation of food for residents and guests under the direction of the cook on duty or the kitchen supervisor. Set up and cleans up the dining room; washed, dries, puts away dishes and utensils; serves and clears food at meals and for snacks.
Supervisor: Kitchen Supervisor
Status: Non-exempt; hourly; part time
- Performs food preparation tasks under the supervision of the cook or kitchen supervisor using proper and safe knowledge of kitchen equipment and maintaining proper sanitation.
-Follows food safety procedures and guidelines.
-Assists residents to chairs as needed.
-Is attentive to residents' needs, preferences and diets.
-Serves food promptly and respectfully; clears away uneaten food, dishes and utensils.
-Sorts and rinses dirty dishes, utensils, cookware; uses dishwasher properly, maintaining appropriate temperatures.
-Cleans and sanitizes tables and chairs in the dining room; set up place settings and stock condiments on tables.
-Prior to end of shift, gathers and disposes of trash and other wast using appropriate containers; leaves kitchen sanitary and safe; including counter tops, floors, walls, and turns off all equipment.
Other Duties and responsibilities
- Assists kitchen supervisor when she is acting as cook.
- Assists with food preparation and serving for special events, including fundraising events.
-Performs other duties and responsibilities, as required, to support our mission of providing, "to self-sufficient women over the age of 60, a residence that is safe and nurturing in a family-like atmosphere."
- Attends in service trainings.
- Complies with the Resident Bill of Rights.
-Maintains residents' confidentiality and respects privacy; treat residents with dignity and respect at all times.
-Interacts positively with residents, family members, guests and visitors.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age (with a valid Certificate of Work if under 18 years of age).
- Must be able to use food service equipment including but not limited to commercial stoves, ovens, food processor, dishwasher, and mixer.
- Must be able to communicate in English.
- Ability to lift, push and pull items up to 40 pounds.
