JOB TITLE: Recreation Assistant
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Career Part Time
PAY RATE: Starting at $15.00 an hour
POSITION SUMMARY: The Recreation Assistant supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of recreation programs, events, and services. This position plays a key role in creating positive, safe, and engaging experience for participants while assisting staff with daily operations and program execution.
WORK SCHEDULE: Up to 25 hours a week. With potential for more. Must be flexible with schedule as position involves some weekend and evening hours.
Assist in the implementation of recreation programs, camps, and special events under the direction of a Recreation Programmer
Provide direct supervision and engagement with participants to ensure a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment
Support program setup and breakdown, including arranging tables, equipment, signage, and activity materials
Monitor participant check-in and attendance, and communicate program information to participants and families
Assist with basic administrative tasks such as answering phones, responding to general inquiries, and completing program documentation
Maintain cleanliness and organization of program spaces, equipment, and storage areas
Enforce department policies, procedures, and safety protocols at all times
Identify and communicate program needs, concerns, or improvement opportunities to supervisors
Assist with inventory, supply tracking, and preparation of materials for programs and events
Provide excellent customer service and represent the Parks and Recreation Department in a professional manner
Support a variety of recreation operations, including evenings, weekends, and special events as assigned
Perform other duties as assigned
Must be at least 16 years of age (or adjust based on your standard)
CPR, First Aid, and AED certification preferred or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe
High school diploma/GED preferred.
Energetic, creative, motivated, and organized.
Ability to work effectively with participants of all ages and abilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to follow directions and work both independently and as part of a team
Must be flexible with scheduling as position involves weekend and evening hours.
