What are the responsibilities and job description for the EXPERIENCED CABINET / MILLWORK SPRAY FINISHER position at Southern Woodwork LLC?
Pay: $22–$29 per hour, depending on experience and ability
Additional production and quality bonuses available if performance merits.
Full-time position with overtime available when workloads require it
We are looking for an experienced wood finisher who can properly prepare and spray cabinets, doors, trim, panels, and custom millwork.
We need someone who already knows how to use spray equipment and produce a clean, consistent finish. This is not a general house-painting position, and we are not looking for someone whose only spray experience is with an airless painter.
The right person should care about keeping work moving while still producing a finish that does not require unnecessary sanding, respraying, touch-up, or field repairs.
EXPERIENCE WITH STAINING INTERIOR MILLWORK REQUIRED, applicants with no millwork finishing experience will not be looked at.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Preparing cabinets, doors, trim, panels, and other millwork for finishing
- Sanding, filling, masking, cleaning, and inspecting material before spraying
- Mixing, reducing, straining, and catalyzing finish materials correctly
- Applying stains, sealers, primers, paints, toners, and clear topcoats
- Spraying even coats without runs, sags, dry spray, orange peel, or heavy buildup
- Sanding between coats and inspecting your own work before it moves forward
- Matching approved colors and finish samples
- Correcting finish defects when they occur
- Cleaning and maintaining spray guns, pumps, hoses, and finishing equipment
- Keeping the spray area and surrounding shop clean and organized
- Tracking finish mixtures and following approved finish schedules
- Helping with sanding, assembly, fabrication, packing, or shop work when finishing work is light
- Performing occasional jobsite touch-up or finish repair when needed
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Previous professional spray-finishing experience
- Experience finishing cabinets, furniture, doors, architectural millwork, or similar wood products
- Ability to set up and adjust spray equipment for different materials and conditions
- Understanding of proper preparation, coating thickness, flash time, and recoat procedures
- Ability to identify and correct common finish problems
- Careful handling of finished parts
- Willingness to work long days when the production schedule requires it
- Reliable attendance and the ability to work without constant supervision
- Ability to safely lift and move cabinet parts, doors, panels, and other millwork
- Willingness to use respirators, protective equipment, and the spray booth correctly
Experience with lacquer, conversion varnish, polyurethane, waterborne finishes, stains, dyes, and toners is preferred. You do not need experience with every product we use, but you must already understand professional wood finishing and spray technique.
TO APPLY, SEND US:
- Your recent work history
- The types of products and finishes you have sprayed
- The spray systems and equipment you have used
- Any experience with stain or color matching
- Photos of completed work, if available
- Your requested starting rate
Final candidates may be asked to demonstrate their spray technique on sample material.
