We are seeking a compassionate, dependable and detail-oriented Referral Clerk to join our team. This position plays and important role in coordinating referrals, supporting patients and providers, and ensuring referrals are processed accurately and efficiently.
Flexible Work Location:
To provide greater flexibility for our employees and support our regional offices, this position may be based on one of several office locations throughout the area including: Hamlin, South Charleston, Oceana or Whitesville.
The selected candidate will be assigned to the location that best aligns with their geographic area, position needs, and available office resources.
The Referral Clerk coordinates all service referrals for patients of Southern West Virginia Health System (SWVHS). This position ensures timely referral processing, manages documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR), and serves as the primary liaison between patients, providers, and outside specialists. The Referral Clerk supports patients in navigating the healthcare system, including assistance with scheduling, insurance authorizations, and community services.

- Demonstrates attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Communicates clearly and compassionately with patients and providers.
- Understands medical terminology and insurance procedures.
- Maintains professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two years of healthcare administrative experience (inpatient or outpatient) within the past three years preferred.
- Experience in referral coordination or patient navigation preferred.
- Familiarity with EMR systems and general computer proficiency required.
- Experience with insurance companies and authorization processes preferred.
